By Jim Dower: IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale (27-1, 15 KO’d) held onto his title by beating a game but limited Osumanu Adama (20-3, 15 KO’s) by a decisive 12 round unanimous decision on Wednesday night at the Dervwent Entertainment Centre in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.

The final judges’ scores were 117-111, 115-113 and 118-110. Geale used a lot of movement and a hit and run style of fighting to pull out a decision. Geale looked like a weaker version of Bute, but with a lot of useless bouncing on his toes that enabled Adama to land more than he should have.

Dib stops Escoebedo

IBF featherweight champion Billy Dib (34-1, 21 KO’s) successfully defended his title with a 7th round technical knockout over #3 International Boxing Federation contender Eduardo Escobedo (32-4, 23 KO’s). The fight was halted after the 6th round when Escobedo opted not to come out for the 7th round. The fight was mostly one-sided with Dib out-boxing Escobedo and punishing him to the body and head. Dib did well against a fighter that was tailor made for him. The IBF has a lot of weak opponents ranked in the 15, and Dib will do well until he has to defend his title against someone like Mikey Garcia, Gary Russell Jr. or Daniel Ponce De Leon. Those guys will likely KO Dib without any problems.

Walker stops Meehan

Hard hitting heavyweight Travis Walker (39-7-1, 31 KO’s) stopped 41-year-old Kali Meehan (38-5, 31 KO’s) in the 6th round. Walker was able to score with his big right hands in the first five rounds of the fight, and in the 6th, he hurt Meehan with a big shot to the head. Walker than unloaded on a hurt Meehan until his corner threw in the towel. It was a big loss for Meehan, as he was ranked high at #8 by the IBF and the loss will no doubt drive him down further in the rankings.
