Image: Ortiz's trainer interested in Khan and Mayweather bouts for OrtizBy William Mackay: Victor Ortiz got some bad news with Andre Berto rupturing his left biceps during a sparring session this week. The injury will erase him from his scheduled February 11th fight with Ortiz and put him out of commission for at least four months while the injury heals. Ortiz is going to have to sit for a number of months while he waits for an important fight to open up for him because no one is available for him to fight. It’s been four since he last fought but it could be another four more before he sees action.

Garcia told examiner.com “You never know, Mayweather doesn’t have a fight right now because him and Pacquiao, they’re still deciding. Why not fight Mayweather in May?”

That is hilarious. Is Garcia trying to punish boxing fans? Mayweather vs. Ortiz would be cruel punishment having to watch that fight again and paying money to watch it. That’s the worst of it.

In the meantime, Ortiz’s trainer Danny Garcia is looking at alternatives for Ortiz’s next fight. According to examiner.com, Garcia is interested in a Floyd Mayweather Jr. rematch with Ortiz, as well as a fight against Amir Khan if he moves up in weight in the next few months. Garcia also would be interested in Ortiz fighting the winner of the Devon Alexander vs. Marcos Maidana fight.

It’s pretty unrealistic to see Khan and/or Mayweather agreeing to fight Ortiz. There’s just no reason to do it. Ortiz doesn’t have a title belt and was humiliated in his last fight against Mayweather last September. Not only does Mayweather probably not want that fight ever again, but I can’t see boxing fans wanting to see Ortiz fight Mayweather a second time, not now, not ever.

If it never happens that would be too soon. That doesn’t mean it won’t happen but I seriously doubt it and I don’t think it would be good for boxing to have Ortiz thrown out there for a second fight with Mayweather so he can go through another mental meltdown when the going gets tough again.

Khan would be an interesting fight because he’s someone that Ortiz would be able to land his punches against. However, I don’t think Golden Boy Promotions will allow Khan to fight Ortiz given that he just lost. They want Khan to avenge his loss to the light hitting Lamont Peterson and then they’ll look for an old toothless lion like Shane Mosley at 147 so that it will give the appearance that Khan is the real deal with casual boxing fans who don’t have a clue how old and over the hill Mosley is.

From there, Golden Boy will look to put together a Khan vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. bout to cash in on Khan’s success against Mosley and Peterson. Khan won’t have a chance and will be clowned by Mayweather, but it’ll make a lot of money. Ortiz won’t figure into any of these plans. He won’t be allowed to fight Khan because he hits too hard and would be a threat to knock Khan out before he gets his Mayweather payday.
