It’s weird that Arum would even care who Mayweather fights next, given that Arum chose not to let Mayweather fight his best fighter Pacquiao. Yesterday, Mayweather was given a delay of his 90-day jail sentence until June 1st, and the option was given to Arum and Pacquiao for a fight against Mayweather on May 5th. But instead of taking that fight, Arum gave several excuses in declining the fight.

Below are some of the issues Arum had with letting Mayweather fight Pacquiao next:

* Pacquiao’s cut from last November might not be healed by May 5th
* Mayweather might not receive his boxing license to fight in Nevada
* The MGM Grand Arena is too small – this is where Mayweather plans to fight next
* It’s not enough time to market the fight before May 5th

A fight between Mayweather and Guerrero might not be a huge fight, but it will still do well because of Mayweather’s presence as well as the large Mexican community that will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo on May 5th and will be interested in seeing Guerrero fight Mayweather for the WBC title.

Mayweather might not fight Guerrero. Saul Alvarez, the WBC junior middleweight champion, is the more likely choice for Mayweather to fight rather than Guerrero.

Arum wanted to change things he could always put Pacquiao in with Mayweather and then he wouldn’t have to worry about Mayweather fighting Guerrero. Of course, that would mean risking his cash cow fighter Pacquiao with Mayweather and it doesn’t look as if Arum is eager for that to happen. I guess it’s easier for him to knock Mayweather than it is to risk letting his best fighter Pacquiao face him and potentially get easily beaten. I think it’s clear already that Mayweather would not only beat Pacquiao if they fought but would totally dominate him and win every round. Arum has a cash cow with Pacquiao but he’s second best behind Mayweather.
