Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is quite pleased about it and is still waiting to see if Khan’s loss will be overturned as well.

Things have changed dramatically in the last two days after a ‘Mystery man’, who reportedly works for the IBF, was seen at ringside sitting with one of the judges for long stretches of the Khan-Peterson fight. The mystery man wasn’t working for the IBF on that night and was merely a spectator. However, he sat with the judge and was looking over his shoulder.

Schaefer told Sky Sports News “We have been informed today by the WBA that they will order an immediate rematch. We received a verbal confirmation today and we will get a written confirmation by next Tuesday. That means that no fighter can take an interim fight, that the next fight for Peterson would be a rematch.”

It’s hard to say how this will have any effect on Peterson, because he only had two options to in anyway. Either he gets lucky and is offered the fight with Manny Pacquiao next, at which point Peterson will likely gladly relinquish his IBF and WBA titles in order to get the big payday or he gets rejected by Pacquiao and goes and fights Khan again. The way Khan’s promoter is handling this it just makes him seem a little green by forcing something that will very likely go his way without all the fuss and public embarrassment.

If Schaefer and Khan would keep their cool about this instead of the needless appeal, constant complaining to the media and all the money spent in the appeal process, Khan would likely get his rematch anyway in 2012. Peterson doesn’t have a lot of options. He probably won’t get the Pacquiao fight, so he going to come back to the Khan fight anyway. I think Schaefer and Khan are acting like a couple of insecure individuals without an ability to see things for the way they really are.

Both are running around like a couple of needy people and wasting energy for nothing. Peterson has no place to go. They should instead have played it cool and waited for Peterson to come to them. Now they’re basically forcing the issue and its making them look bad. What will be worse is if the IBF and WBA overturn Peterson’s win and give Khan his belts back.
