Image: Wladimir to fight Mormeck on March 3rd in 2012By Dan Ambrose: With his cancellation of his fight previously scheduled for this Saturday night against 39-year-old badly overmatched former cruiserweight Jean Marc Mormeck (36-4, 22 KO’s), IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko had the perfect excuse to move on and look to face someone else rather than taking this fight.

Boxing fans really hate this match-up and see it as a case of Wladimir milking his title against a fighter that is probably lucky to be even a fringe contender at this point after three consecutive controversial decisions in his home city of Paris, France. However, Wladimir is sticking to the fight with Mormeck and has rescheduled the mismatch for March 3rd in 2012 in the same venue, Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.

It’s more than a little disappointing to see Wladimir wasting almost a year on getting ready for this fight, because it’s one that nobody wants to see other than diehard Wladimir fans. You would think that by March of next year a better contender would have stepped up to the plate to face Wladimir. I realize that none were supposedly ready this time around, but does that go for next year as well? Does it get worse after Wladimir faces Mormeck?

Hopefully not, because this is the worst mismatch that Wladimir has been involved in since his fight with Hasim Rahman in 2008. Mormeck is a huge step down from David Haye, Eddie Chambers, Ruslan Chagaev, and even Rahman. This guy would lose to all of those guys, which is why it’s sad that Wladimir is still interested in taking this fight and using up nearly a year of his career on this bout alone. I guess Mormeck must have a huge following in France for Wladimir to be still interested in wasting time on this fight.

I think Wladimir needs to cut his losses, and wake up to the reality that no one wants to see him beat up on Mormeck. If Wladimir wants a mismatch, he should go after Robert Helenius, Tyson Fury, David Price, Chagaev, Alexander Dimitrenko, Alexander Ustinov, Chris Arreol, Denis Boytsov, Tony Thompson, Haye, Bermane Stiverne, Tomasz Adamek, Odlanier Solis Chambers or Samuel Peter. I think all of those fighters would make easy work of Mormeck, and would make for a better fight for Wladimir.
