Ward’s cut may cause him to think twice about using his head, says Froch

Image: Ward's cut may cause him to think twice about using his head, says FrochBy Scott Gilfoid: For some sad and twisted reason some people have got it in their confused minds that WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward likes to headbutt his opponents for sport. WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch is one of those people who see Ward as someone that likes to ram heads for gain in his fights.

But Froch is so wrong and is just basing his opinion on the Ward vs. Mikkel Kessler fight where Ward took apart Europe’s top super middleweight and beat him like a drum in front of the whole world. I guess that was hard for some people to adjust to because Ward came into the Super Six tournament as just a youngster with not much expected of him. The same goes for Andre Dirrell, the blazing fast talent that wowed boxing fans during the brief time he took part in the Super Six tourney.

Froch told Sky Sports News this about Ward: “It [the cut] might slow down his use of the head a bit because there is scar tissue above his [right] eye that could potentially open back up. He’s not going to want that so maybe he’ll lay off a bit with his head…You don’t want to get headbutted in the face or eyes…That happened quite often in the Mikkel Kessler fight and Ward was allowed to get away with it.”

Ward didn’t get away with anything because the headbutts that occurred in the Kessler-Ward fight were mutual headbutts were both fighters were coming forward. It wasn’t Ward’s fault or Kessler’s. It was two guys that kept coming together and clashing heads. I think Froch is either mentioning this so much because he’s hoping to make Ward hesitant about coming forward to engage or he’s silly enough to believe it. That’s awfully sad if Froch does believe Ward’s headbutts were anything other than because because even a four-year-old child can see that none of the headbutts in the Kessler-Ward fight was the fault of Ward.
