Perhaps Guerrero might have a better case for getting a fight with Mayweather if he wasn’t coming off major injury involving his left rotator cuff, which he tore up earlier this year while getting ready for a fight against Marcos Maidana.

Guerrero is still rehabbing the shoulder and hasn’t seen action since beating lightweight Michael Katsidis last April. Guerrero has never even fought at light welterweight, let alone welterweight. If he were to fight Mayweather, Guerrero would have to move up two entire divisions to take the fight. To say it would be a mismatch would be putting it kindly. Guerrero would have no chance against the much faster Mayweather.

Guerrero said to ringtv “Me and Floyd Mayweather make sense. I’ve been studying him and I’ve got the keys to beat him. I’ve got him figured out. I know Floyd like the back of my hand.”

This is almost comical. Guerrero would be overmatched against Mayweather. I guess Guerrero has had too much time on his hands trying to heal up his shoulder and is watching too much of Mayweather’s old fights. But let’s be honest, Guerrero didn’t look all that spectacular against Katsidis. Sure, he dominated the guy but he had problems when Katsidis was attacking his midsection and there were a few moments there where it was uncertain Guerrero was going to make it through the full 12 rounds.

Guerrero was handled by Orlando Salido five years ago in a fight where Salido attacked Guerrero’s body and took a lot of the fight out of him. Mayweather would do much worse to the skinny Guerrero. It wouldn’t be a fight and it wouldn’t draw the numbers that Mayweather would want it to because Guerrero doesn’t have a huge fan base.
