Image: Atlas: Mayweather will beat Pacquiao handily if and when they fightBy Chris Williams: The wise Teddy Atlas doesn’t see a future fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. being a particularly close one if and when the bout happens. Speaking with fighthype.com, Atlas pointed out that Pacquiao has shown signs of being susceptible in taking punishment in some of his one-sided fights put together by his promoter Bob Arum.

Atlas doesn’t say which fights Pacquiao took punishment in but it’s obvious the bouts against Miguel Cotto, Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito stand out in your mind where Pacquiao got his face marked up pretty well each one of those mostly one-sided fights.

Atlas said this to fighthype.com “I pick now, if that fight ever happens, for Mayweather to win that fight handily.”

I totally agree with Atlas, but I don’t think Arum is going to allow Pacquiao to fight Mayweather in the first place and let him mess up his revenue stream by beating up Pacquiao in front of the entire world. I just don’t see it happening. I don’t know how Pacquiao feels about it. You would have to wonder why Pacquiao hasn’t put his feet down after all this time and demand the Mayweather fight to be made if he was someone that really wanted the fight to happen.

I think if Pacquiao was assertive with Arum, the fight would have happened ages ago instead of something that is still being talked about after two years of back and forth chatter. The time to make the fight would have been early in 2010. I think the interest in the bout has dropped off somewhat because people are tired of the excuses both fighters are making. And then you mix in Mayweather’s steroid accusations and Manny’s lawsuit for defamation, and you get a sick witches brew that’s a real turn off for boxing fans.
