Goosen: If anyone is going to get knocked out in the Froch-Ward fight, it’s going to be Froch

Image: Goosen: If anyone is going to get knocked out in the Froch-Ward fight, it's going to be FrochBy Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Dan Goosen chimed in with his views on the December 17th Super Six tournament clash between WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch and WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward by seeing a possible KO for Ward in this fight.

Goosen isn’t saying it’s going to be a KO necessarily, but if there’s going to be any knocking out done in this fight, it’s going to be Ward who KOs Froch instead of the other way around.

Goosen said “If there’s going to be a knockout, it will be Ward who does it.”

Goosen is correct of course. We’ve already seen Froch hurt in fights against Andre Dirrell and Jermain Taylor, and stunned in the Glen Johnson fight. But what we haven’t seen yet is Ward hurt in any of his fights. The reason for this is simple. He’s got a good chin and can take an occasional hard shot every now and then. Ward has fought quality opposition for years now, and he’s not been bothered by the big shots he’s hit with. Froch himself hasn’t had a knockout win since 2009, and is really going through a dry spell in the knockout category. That tells you something about Froch’s power or lack thereof.

Froch seems to handle single shots fairly well. However, when he gets hit with hard combinations, especially the sustained variety, that’s where he gets stunned and has problems. Ward has done his homework and watched Froch’s previous fights and will be ready to take advantage of Froch’s shaky chin by nailing him with combinations to get him out of there.

Ward will be ready for any of Froch’s tricks if he decides to turn the fight into a dirty brawl like he did in the Andre Dirrell fight. Ward is quite capable of adapting quickly and fighting dirty if needed. Froch doesn’t have much of an inside game and Ward will have him where he wants him once the fight gets in close. Froch can’t fall back on fouling, because Ward can match him in this area if need be.
