Image: Prescott apologizes to the Irish fans in advance for having to brutally knock out McCloskeyBy Scott Gilfoid: Showing what a class act he is, Colombian knockout artist Breidis Prescott (24-2, 19 KO’s) apologized ahead of time to the Irish boxing fans of Paul McCloskey (22-1, 12 KO’s) yesterday because he’s about to brutally knockout their hero McCloskey in front of a packed house at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

“I’d like to apologize to all the Irish fans that will be rooting for their man [McCloskey] this Saturday at the Odyssey Arena,” Prescott said to the independent.ie. “I’m sorry I’m going to ruin your party. I’ve come to put on a great performance and hopefully Paul McCloskey comes to fight and doesn’t run around the ring.”

Yes, it’s going to be sad to see McCloskey getting knocked out and smacked around like a rag doll in front of his loving Irish fans tonight. God, I just hope no one loses it and starts throwing things when Prescott’s hand is raised over the fallen McCloskey. If I were Prescott’s management, I would try to usher him out as quickly as possible just in case something comes flying and brains him in his moment of triumph.

The thing is McCloskey’s Irish fans actually think he has a chance to win this fight. That’s the worst when you got fans that aren’t mentally prepared for their fighter to get creamed the way he’s going to be demolished by Prescott tonight. They’re going to be in shock when Prescott rushes out, lands one of his big hooks and McCloskey falls out like he’s been shot. It’s going to be over so suddenly that fans won’t know what happened until they see McCloskey flat out on the canvas, eyes closed and Prescott parading around the ring, smiling and jumping for joy. What do you expect though?

You got a huge puncher facing a weak defensive artist with no power, no hand speed and no offense to speak of. This is going to be a like a big cat facing a little mouse who’s only hope is to run for the mouse hole in the wall. The only sense of suspense will be how long McCloskey can run to try and survive. The only real interesting point of the fight is how long McCloskey can last before Prescott finally catches up to him to drill him into the canvas.

I can’t see McCloskey lasting more than two or three rounds at best, even with running like a track star with a scared look in his eyes. This is why there are different levels in boxing. What McCloskey is doing here is stepping above his level against Prescott, and he’s about to get smacked down and put back in his place. It’s the order of things. Getting knocked out is the end result of what happens when a limited fighter like McCloskey go messing around with a mean and hungry bear like Prescott.
