Froch: I walk down fighters like Ward who can’t punch

Image: Froch: I walk down fighters like Ward who can't punchBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch has his mind made up that WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward can’t punch, and isn’t someone he has to really worry about on October 29th in their Super Six finals. I wonder if Froch felt the same way about Mikkel Kessler, who made Froch look bad in beating him last April.

Dare I remind Froch that Ward totally dominated Kessler in October 2009, handing him a royal spanking he still hasn’t forgotten. Froch’s mind is so mixed up about this power nonsense. I just hope Froch can keep it together when he starts getting pummeled by Ward’s speedy shots up and down his body on October 29th.

Froch said this on Sky Sports Ringside the other day “He’s [Ward] not a big puncher, and anyone who can’t punch against me, they struggle cause I walk them down. I put it on them, and they realize they’re in deep water around rounds four and five when the big shots coming through. I’m just letting you realize who he’s win with, and get inside his mind. I’m looking to dictate the fight…It’s good to go into the fight and not be the favorite. That fuels me.”

It sounds like Froch is going to try and plod his way in like he usually does. In other words, Froch is going go do what he always does. No surprise there. I see Froch as an old dog that can’t learn new tricks no matter what he says. Froch will always fight like Froch. He’s too slow to fight any other way, so I guess trying to walk Ward down is the best he can do. It’s too bad it’s a recipe for failure.

Froch will plod forward, eat shots to the head with his gloves dangling uselessly by his sides, and by the time he raises his arms to try and throw something, Ward will have moved out of range. It’s going to be like this all night long, believe me. Froch is going to end up looking like an ape on October 29th, and show the world how great Ward is.
