Ring title on the line for Froch-Ward

By Scott Gilfoid: The prestigious Ring title will be on the line for the October 29th Super Six tournament fight between WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (24-0, 13 KO’s) and WBC champion Carl Froch (28-1, 20 KO’s) at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. it’s going to be good for the No.1 ranked Ward in the Ring super middleweight ratings to finally capture the ultimate Ring Magazine super middleweight belt.

Froch is ranked at No.2, but I see him more as no better than No.5 in the ratings, behind Lucian Bute and Mikkel Kessler. It seems silly for Froch to be ranked ahead of unbeaten Bute. How can Froch be ahead of the unbeaten Bute? It doesn’t make sense. It also doesn’t make any sense that Froch is ranked ahead of the No.4 Kessler, who beat Froch last year by a 12 round decision. Kessler hasn’t lost since then, and should be ranked ahead of Froch in my book.

In an interview at Sky Sports News, Ward said “I’ve always wanted to be the Ring Magazine champion, so now that’s on the line, and we have the Super Six cup, plus the two other belts involved, everything’s on the line.”

Ward is the uncrowned king of the Super Six tournament and the only thing that separates him from winning the title is the time that he has to wait before taking the trophy and bringing it back to his home in Oakland, California.

“My toughness is underestimated, Ward said. “When Andre Ward is rough, I’m dirty, but when Carl is rough he gets praised for it. It depends on who you ask and how you look at it.”

I totally agree with Mr. Ward. He gets a lot of stick for his sometimes rough play on the inside while Froch receives a lot of praise.
