Image: Pacquiao says he'll be fighting Mayweather in 2012By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao incredibly is saying he’ll be fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr sometime next year. If this were only true that Pacquiao will actually end up doing this. It’s nice that Pacquiao is interested in fighting Mayweather, but the fact of the matter is the chances of Pacquiao and Mayweather fighting anytime in this lifetime are extremely remote.

It’s not that Mayweather is being difficult or anything like that. He’s made it clear that he’s available to fight Pacquiao as long as the Filipino star agrees to the random blood tests for performance enhancing drugs to be tested by the USADA. That’s all Mayweather asking. All Pacquiao has to do is stay in the U.S during the training camp for a Mayweather fight so that the USADA can regularly test Pacquiao whenever they want.

They can’t test him if he’s going to be training in the Philippines, meaning unless he forgets about training there for the Mayweather fight, he’s going to have to settle for fighting other guys like possibly Mike Jones, Timothy Bradley and another fight against Miguel Cotto. Those are all decent fights for Pacquiao, but none of them are going to bring in the excitement and money that a fight against Mayweather will. Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum is saying that Pacquiao will be tested by WADA while he’s in the Philippines training.

Mayweather doesn’t agree to that unfortunately. That’s what makes it seem so pointless that Pacquiao is talking about fighting Mayweather next year. Pacquiao should realize that a Mayweather fight isn’t possible unless he gives up on the idea of using the WADA to do the testing and give up on the idea of training in the Philippines. If Pacquiao wants to fight the best fighter on the planet, he’s got to agree to what he says. If not, then Pacquiao will have to settle for Jones, Bradley and Cotto.
