The Thompson-Chambers fight would be an International Boxing Federation heavyweight title eliminator with the winner of the fight becoming the mandatory for IBF title holder Wladimir Klitschko.

Both Chambers and Thompson have previously fought and been knocked out by Wladimir in the past, but given how terrible the heavyweight is right now both of them have risen back up for another crack at the title. The outcome will obviously be the same if not worse next time around, as Wladimir has gotten better while Thompson and Chambers look worse.

Chambers recently defeated Derric Rossy by a 12 round decision after sitting for 11 months following his 12th round knockout loss to Wladimir in March 2010. Thompson, now 39, has won five straight bouts since being knocked out by Wladimir in the 11th round in July 2008. Thompson has beaten Adnan Senin, Chazz Witherspoon, Owen Beck, Paul Marinacccio and Maurice Harris.

It’s difficult to say how the 6’5″ southpaw Thompson will do against a live body like Chambers, because the last good fighter that Thompson fought was Wladimir and he knocked Thompson out. Thompson, never fast to begin with, looks to have slowed even more to the point where he moves around almost slug-like when fighting. Chambers will give him problems with his hand speed and inside fighting ability. Thompson will need to find some power if he wants to win this fight and get a second shot at Wladimir.
