Steward picking Fury to beat Chisora

Image: Steward picking Fury to beat ChisoraBy Sean McDaniel: Trainer Emanuel Steward sees Tyson Fury (14-0, 10 KO’s) as being too big, strong and powerful for British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) on Saturday night. Steward has kind of taken Fury under his wing to train and help him get to the next level.

Thus far, Fury has looked pretty raw in his fights and hasn’t been able to utilize his size to easily beat the mostly mediocre opposition that he’s fought during his still young career.

Steward said this to On the Ropes Boxing radio: “Tyson’s sheer size. He’s got a good chin, good stamina, and good punch output, also. I think those factors, and being 6’9″ compared to 6’1″ is going to be a big problem for Dereck to overcome…I give a slight edge to Tyson in this fight, mainly because of the physical size.”

Wladimir Klitschko, the IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion, will likely be at the fight to watch up close both of the fighters, as he’s said recently that he’s interested in taking on the winner of this fight in his next bout in December.

Steward is right about Fury’s size being an important asset for him. However, Fury is going to have to be able to take a lot of big shots from Chisora in order to win the fight, because Fury’s jab isn’t good enough to keep Chisora stuck on the outside. That’s an area that Fury really needs to work on – his jab. He’ll struggle badly against Chisora unless he can control the fight with his jab. He might still win but it’s not going to as easy it would be if he had a good jab to keep Chisora stuck on the outside.
