Klitschko won’t underestimate Adamek

By John F. McKenna (McJack): At an HBO press conference in Manhattan World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight title holder Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 39 KO’s) was adamant that he would not underestimate former WBC light heavyweight and IBF cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek (44-1, 28 KO’s) in their September 10 showdown.

Both fighters made an appearance at the press conference which was held to hype the fight to be held at a newly constructed stadium in Wroclaw, Poland. The impending match up has not caused the media stir that the recent David Haye – Wladimir Klitschko fight on July 2 did, but in Poland it is a big deal. Adamek is a national hero in Poland and his fans will give him the type of support that the Brits gave David Haye.

Vitali arrived in New York City with his brother Vladimir, who dominated David Haye on July 2 in Germany. Vitali celebrated his 40th birthday on July 19 and he is determined to prove to the world that age will not be a factor in this fight. When he KO’d Odlanier Solis in Mach, Klitschko stated that there was no heavyweight in the world who can beat him.

Vitali was quoted in BOXNEWS.com.ua as saying “If you overlook fighters like Adamek you lose. We have one fighter that is better than Adamek and his name is Haye. But Haye is only a champion in talking and talking and nothing more. Adamek is a better fighter than him and I knew this even before Haye’s fight with my brother.”

After sharing pleasantries, Klitschko wasted no time in his attempt to intimidate Adamek. “Dr. Ironfist” reminded Tomasz that he is “an original heavyweight” and not a fighter “who is a heavyweight because he eats a lot of food.”

“You will know the difference on September 10 in Wroclaw, the difference of being hit by original heavyweight.” Klitschko also said that he expects to win by a knockout.

Adamek did not blink and responded by saying “Speed is power. I know what I can do in the ring. I know how to move and what to do to win this fight. Most of Vitali’s rivals lost the fight before they enter the ring. It will not happen to me.”

Vitali did not entertain any questions about possible future opponents or how much longer he would fight. He made no effort however to hide his disdain for David Haye.
“I want to knock him out. I can do it. It’s personal.”

At the present time Vitali Klitschko said that the only thing that matters is Tomasz Adamek. He does not want to look past him.

Adamek for his part believes that he will get a boost from fighting in Poland. He does not want to disappoint his loyal followers.
