Klitschko-Adamek: Tomasz looking kind of bulky

By Dan Ambrose: Heavyweight challenger Tomasz Admaek (44-1, 28 KO’s) is looking really bulky from his training pictures and it looks like Adamek is weighing over 220 lbs for his upcoming September 10th fight against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (42-2, 39 KO’s) at the Stadion Miejski, Wroclaw, Poland. Adamek has been weighing in around 216 for his six fights at heavyweight.

However, his competition has been lacking to say the least. Adamek didn’t need to put on any kind of size against the mostly older fighters that he’s been put in with. However, against the 6’7″ 250 pound Vitali, Adamek is going to need some more size for him to even have a small chance of competing.

Right now, he just looks short and chunky and not big enough to give the 40-year-old Vitali any kind of problems. Vitali is also an older heavyweight, but his skills are so much better than the old guys that Adamek has been facing that it really doesn’t matter much about his age. Adamek isn’t going to have the speed or the power to take advantage of Vitali’s age. For that to happen, Adamek would have to possess a lot better hand speed and power.

Vitali is coming off of a 1st round knockout win over Odlanier Solis in March. I consider Solis a better heavyweight than Adamek, but Solis injured his right leg when it gave out on him after getting hit hard by Vitali, making it necessary for the fight to be halted.

In contrast, Adamek recently defeated the big and slow Kevin McBride by a 12 round decision in a fight that really gave Adamek no kind of warm up for what he’s about to face against Vitali. It was basically a payday for Adamek, because McBride is C class, as is Adamek’s two opponents before that. Adamek has been in cruise control for the past year, fighting guys in the slow lane to make sure he gets to this fight against Vitali. It’s going to be a mismatch with Adamek getting beaten down and taken out. It’s too bad he didn’t have any kind of test before this because he might have been weeded out already and we wouldn’t be wasting time on this fight.
