Image: David’s Haye FeverBy Robert Smith: With most sufferers confessing the months of June and July as causing the most anxiety, it is only fitting then that this Saturday, July 2nd, at the Imtech Arena in Altona, Hamburg plays host to a Hay Fever of a different kind in the form of current WBA Heavyweight Champion David ‘Haye maker’ Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s ) when he takes on reigning IBF,WBO & IBO heavyweight Champion Wladimir ‘Dr Steelhammer’ Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s ) in what many are billing as the heavyweight clash of the decade.

The Symptoms:

Not much unlike the swelling of the eyes, Haye’s star has risen and has proven a formidable opponent in a relatively short space of time, dispatching most recently the non combative Audley Harrison within 3 rounds and putting on a clinic against a respectable but war torn John Ruiz. But it was his against the odds victory over the Russian Giant Nikolay Valuev which in hand gained him the coveted WBA heavy weight title that brought him under the piercing Radar of the Klitschko brothers and in turn brought about David’s rise in temperature.

The Diagnosis:

Styles make fights and this is no different. This clash truly carries more questions than answers, as Haye, stands relatively untested to date in his career. While on the other hand, Wladimir has been relatively untested in the caliber of Haye for a long time also, having dictated his fights with relative ease since as far back as 2004. Can Haye make the quick step up from 2nd Tier opponents to facing the world’s best? Can Wladimir adapt in time to someone faster and as fit, who can dictate the pace and lunge beyond his jab? Can Wladimir set up his jab? Can David effectively get on the inside? Can Wladimir weather the early assault Haye has promised to give? Can Haye weather the assault that will follow should his own assault come undone within the first 6 rounds ? What role will stamina play in this fight? Is a cuts stoppage probable? Will Wladimir be pulled into a brawl? Will David be forced to box? All these questions and more, we have a positive result. The Diagnosis is a fever Ladies and gentlemen.

The Prescription:

This could be a bitter pill to swallow for either man. A strong dose is needed though. Will it be a self Prescription for David, billing the Doctor at the end of the night? or will the Doctor issue the prescription as is common practice? Who will leave the building holding all the tablets? Watch July 2nd to find out.
