Froch thinks Haye can jab with Wladimir

By Scott Gilfoid: For boxing fans that hate IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko the one thing they have to acknowledge about him is that he’s got the best jab in the heavyweight division by far. There’s no one even close to Wladimir in terms of the power and the accuracy he has with his jabs. You can’t say the same thing about WBA heavyweight champion David Haye, who doesn’t typically throw a lot of jabs and even when he does, he doesn’t get much extension with them.

If you look at Haye’s arms, they’re slightly curled the way that a bodybuilder’s arms are from too much muscle. This doesn’t help Haye when he attempts to jab. He also isn’t helped by being of limited height at only 6’2″. This is why I was somewhat mystified when WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch said that he thinks that Haye can jab with Wladimir.

In an interview at Sky Sports News, Froch said “I think Haye can jab with Wladimir.” Froch says that Haye’s jabs will help set up his right hand. Oh, I believe they would if Wladimir were 6’2″ like Haye, and didn’t have such an excellent jab working for him. But the fact is Haye can’t jab with Wladimir, and I seriously doubt that Haye will throw more than five or six jabs per round if that. Haye can’t jab with the much longer-armed Wladimir, and we’ll see that on July 2nd when they fight in Hamburg, Germany. Haye couldn’t even jab with the slow moving Nikokay Valuev, so how is he going to be able to jab with Wladimir? Value out-jabbed Haye in that fight by far.
