Alvarez would beat Chavez Jr.

Image: Alvarez would beat Chavez Jr.By Dallan O’Donnell: In light of news that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum would match Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (43-1-0, 30 KO’s) with Fellow Mexican Saul Alvarez (37-1-0, 27 KO’s) right now has shifted all eyes and pressure toward Golden Boy who promote Alvarez. It is unlikely that Oscar De La Hoya would want to risk this fight so soon in Alvarez career despite the fact he would most likely win. Both are world champions and it would be a no brainer as revenue for the fight would be through the roof.

It would gain a massive public following as both fighters are popular and have a very big following. It does surprise me that Arum would want to make the fight as opposed to Golden Boy as Arum likes to make the most out of his fighters over a long period. It is not the right fight for the Chavez camp as I believed he is very over-rated. Alvarez has a huge future ahead of him if he picks the right fights for instance fighting Manny Pacquaio would not be the best career move now.

Both Chavez and Alvarez have been linked with fights against Sergio Martinez but I think only Alvarez should pursue him as Chavez would be beaten where Alvarez would have a better chance as he is a bigger puncher. Chavez would perhaps be well advised to chase Felix Sturm who narrowly and controversially beat Mathew Macklin on Saturday. Chavez would have a great chance at beating Sturm and then with that experience under his belt he could pursue the likes of Martinez or Miguel Cotto.

Margarito would even be a good test for him now even if he is coming off the worst beating of his career. Eventually these two will meet somewhere down the line but now is not the right time. There are plenty of big fights out there for both it is just a question of who can last the distance better. Chavez has the talent no doubt, but he needs to be more adventurous in the ring and then perhaps we will see the best of him. Hopefully with his fight against Peter Manfredo Jr. In November (as listed on BoxRec) we will see a more aggressive Chavez who could perhaps last the pace at the top.
