Something is bugging me about David Haye

Image: Something is bugging me about David HayeBy Ben James: Let me start by saying I am a huge David Haye fan and will be supporting him in his fight against Wladimir Klitschko on the second of July. Something has just been bothering me about David Haye. Unlike some other writers I don’t believe he is starting to become intimidated by the prospect of actually fighting Klitschko, and I don’t think he has lost any of his self confidence. The man is just going into training mode and is taking this fight very seriously.

What is bothering me is his record in the past few years. From what I can see David Haye has not been in a real tough fight since late 2007 when he knocked out Jean Marc Mormeck in France. Since then he has had 5 relatively easy fights.

In his fight against Enzo Maccarinelli he hardly had to break a sweat to win, he certainly never got hurt, the fight was a breeze for David Haye.

Then when he moved up to heavyweight he took on an easy challenge in Monte Barrett. The only time he got hurt in that fight was when he slipped onto his ass and then took a clean shot to the head while he was sat on the canvas. Other than that he walked straight over Barrett.

When capturing the WBA Heavyweight title from Nikolay Valuev, David Haye never really got hit. Sure he might have tired himself out running around, jumping in and out with punches to win the fight, but you cannot call that a tough fight or a war. He didnt have to take any shots.

Fighting the aging John Ruiz in his first title defence was easy for Haye too. Sure Ruiz put up more of a fight than his previous opponents but David Haye still walked away having not had to go to war with Ruiz. He didnt have his chin or his heart tested in this fight.

Now we come to the shambles that was his fight with Audley Harrison where they basically circled each other for 3 rounds before Haye exploded and destroyed the weak-hearted Harrison.

David Haye is a brilliant fighter but I just cant shake the feeling that maybe he is not as good as he wants us to believe. He talks a good talk and puts on a good show but he has not had to prove anything with regards to his heart or chin since 2007.

I hope I am wrong about this. I hope Haye comes into the ring in the best physical and mental state of his career and proves to the world that Wladimir Klitschko is not unbeatable.
