Image: Marquez will be beaten by the catchweight in Pacquiao fightBy Chris Williams: In my view Juan Manuel Marquez already holds two wins over Manny Pacquiao from their past fights against each other. Marquez fought remarkably well in both fights and seemed to show that he had Pacquiao figured out as he won the majority of rounds in their two fights. But with that said, I don’t see Marquez beating Pacquiao now. And it’s not that Pacquiao is a better fighter than Marquez, I don’t see Pacquiao as being on the same level as the 37-year-old Mexican.

What will end up beating Marquez in this fight will be the catchweight, along with his creeping age. Marquez has already proven that he can’t fight at above 140 when he was easily beaten by Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2009 when he weighed in at 142. Now, Marquez is being asked to fight Pacquiao at 144 instead of Pacquiao meeting him at 140 to accommodate Marquez. That just means that this fight is going to be another one of Pacquiao’s mismatches, only he won’t be winning this one because Marquez is coming off of a loss or has been struggling as of late, but rather because he doesn’t have the size to fight over 140.

Pacquiao has proven that he can fight and beat guys weighing well over 140, but Marquez hasn’t. All we know of Marquez is that he looked slow and old when he lost to Mayweather weighing 142. Of course, Marquez isn’t going to say no to the $5 million that he’s going to get for the Pacquiao fight. This may be a mismatch with the catchweight involved, but Marquez will take the money anyway. It will obviously help him in his retirement, but you can forget about him winning the fight and getting the chance at the $10 million that will be given to him in a rematch with Pacquiao if he wins the fight.
