Reporters expected Groves and DeGale to come to blows, but in fact it was the stand in opponent for newly crowned WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly, Tony Bellew who made the biggest impression on the day’s proceedings.

After furious exchanges with Nathan, Bellew finally decided enough was enough, jumping from his seat shouting post watershed language in his wild attempts to attack Cleverly. Not one to back down, Cleverly also leaped from his seat, where security immediately stepped in to prevent the two fighters from beginning the fight a few days early. The language Bellew used forced Sky Sports news, who was broadcasting the press conference to cut away from the audio and apologize to viewers many times.

Cleverly, who was not meant to be fighting Bellew, was in fact scheduled to fight Jurgen Brahmer for the title but Brahmer was forced to pull out with an eye injury thus being forced to surrender the title to Cleverly with the Welshman not having fought for the crown. Now after today, fight fans will be more interested in this bout than the Brahmer bout and possibly even the DeGale – Groves bout too. The only possible problem with this fight is of course the fact Bellew may be unprepared for the fight and Cleverly is very much prepared thinking he was fighting for a world title; it could perhaps be an early blow out. Hopefully not and with it being another true grudge match it should make for exciting viewing.

DeGale and groves didn’t do much trash talking besides from the usual dribble we have heard from them both in the build up but they did both agree on a wager outside of the fight. DeGale was the one who proposed the bet that if either man loses the will give their purse to the other. So if DeGale loses he claimed he would “match” what Groves would make and vice versa. If nothing but a side show it certainly may add to the excitement on Saturday as if we didn’t need any more. I think that there will be knockouts in both fights. Cleverly will win inside 4 (I say this only as I think Bellew may be unprepared) and DeGale before the tenth by TKO. The bill also features unbeaten prospect Frankie Gavin who fights for the WBO intercontinental title against one time British champion Young Mutley. Gavin should win and move on to bigger and better things in the future.
