What did Marcos Maidana really win?

By Gerardo Granados: Last Saturday 4th, brawler Marcos Maidana defeated boxing great Erik Morales by MD 12 rounds, but what did he really win? He was supposed to utterly defeat Morales, he was supposed to not only knock out Morales before the final round but to hurt him so bad, most of boxing writers gave no chance to Morales to win, some were worried for Morales health and the betting odds were simply ridiculous.

For Zab Judah the winner was Morales and I agree with him, it was a close fight for both fighters, I guess that if the fight had been declared a draw it would be fair. It was evident that Morales was no longer in his prime but with what he has left it was clear that he is not finished yet, I believe Morales won the respect of the world boxing fans with his gritty performance and once again prove to be a real warrior who has a heart bigger than his chest. Perhaps many boxing fans would like to see him fight once more time and next time maybe he wont be criticized so much.

Many writers were mean to Morales previous his fight against Maidana, and now they must feel embarrassed due their biased comments, perhaps an apology would not be enough for Erik, but for sure next time they will be careful before making such cruel comments towards a professional boxer.

Maidana was declared the winner by the local fight judges, but what about the boxing fans do they believe he won? Did Marcos earned the respect and admiration for his effort? Was Maidana exposed as the one dimensional fighter that he is? He won the fight on the score cards but is he considered as great as Erik Morales?

Maidana is a good fighter but there are a couple boxers that would easily defeat him, Manny would destroy him and Mayweather would simply school him, maybe he should face Michael Katsidis because both have a very similar style.

Once upon a time a king won a war but it was a pyrrhic victory. The only way that Maidana would be benefited by fighting Morales was to utterly defeat him to knock him out cold. Marcos “Chino”Maidana was not able to destroy Erik Morales, so I guess it was a “Terrible” victory for him. Was it?
