Image: Hatton offered comeback against Erik Morales?!By Lee Elford: Ricky Hatton has reportedly been offered the chance of making a sensational u-turn with his retirement plans by taking on Mexican tough guy Eric Morales. In an article by Ed Sheeran in Sunday’s ‘News of the World’ UK paper, it is claimed Oscar de la Hoya offered the popular Manchester fighter this mouth watering head to head last Thursday evening (14/4/11). Hatton’s Lawyer was also present at this ‘meeting’ and is quoted as confirming this offer has been made, and the ball is now in the Hitman’s court.

A Hatton – Morales fight would potentially sell over a million in PPV sales worldwide and would no doubt be a sell out within days at its allotted arena. Mexican fireball Morales showed the entire boxing world that wear and tear just makes you tougher in his incredible fight against Marcos Maidana recently, falling agonizingly short in a decision which would have defied boxing logic. Ricky Hatton has been dismissed in general for being a ‘shot’ fighter who’s diet and leisure time outside of training has numbed his sharpness and punch resistance. It is feasible that Hatton could well be inspired and motivated by the Mexicans recent performance, knowing that Morales has also fought 58 fights (12 more than the younger Mancunian) and undoubtedly several more all out wars than Hatton.

Ricky Hatton is a confidence fighter, not a beaten fighter. To let down his masses of fans takes more of a toll on him than losing a fight. I believe a decent coaching staff and a training camp without the media circus which surrounds him could well refresh the Hitman, who recently claimed he is finished with fighting, into getting some belief back. Could this be the perfect fight against his Mexican ‘mirror’ to prove to himself and his fans he still has it in the locker?
