Image: Experts give predictions: Maidana vs. Morales tonightBy Jim Dower: Tonight knockout artist Marcos Maidana (29-2, 27 KO’s) will be facing 34-year-old Erik Morales in a battel for the WBC interim light welterweight title at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. For Morales, this could be his last shot at fame. If he gets beaten up and taken out by Maidana that could be the end for Morales. He can obviously continue to fight but it’s difficult to see him finding any success at light welterweight, lightweight or any other weight classes Morale might choose to move to after taking a loss tonight.

Below, Boxingnews24 boxing experts give there thoughts and predictions on the tonight’s fight.

Scott Gilfoid: – Morales is too old, too slow and too hittable. This is going to be like throwing a gold fish to a piranha. It’s going to be sad to see him get whipped like a dog. I hope the referee is merciful and stops the brutal massacre before Morales gets hurt. I still can’t believe the WBA has Morales ranked at number #5. What does that tell you about the WBA?

Prediction – Maidana by brutal 6th round knockout.

Chris Williams: This could be an interesting fight if Morales can find a time machine to go back 10 years to his prime to find his long lost youth. Barring that, this is going to be a mismatch. Maidana has too much power for the aging Morales to deal with and I can’t see him being able to survive long under Maidana’s pounding. This is a bad match-up. I do like the fight as a tune-up fight for Maidana. I see this one as the equivalent of Maidana facing a 2nd tier fighter, because that’s pretty much what Morales is now.

Prediction – Maidana 9th round TKO.

William Mackay: Morales might be able to make things interesting for five or six rounds while his wheels are still working. After that, it’s going to be a mismatch with Morales no longer able to move and just taking shots to the head one after another. Unless Maidana comes into this fight completely flat like he did in the DeMarcus Corley fight, I think this fight will end up as a knockout win for Maidana in the later rounds. Morales has enough boxing knowledge and a good enough chin to last that long. But his face is going to get badly beaten up with both of his eyes cut and his nose broken. He’ll probably look a lot like Amir Khan did when he was getting pounded by Maidana last December and resemble a house cat by the time the fight ends.

Prediction – Maidana by 10th round TKO.
