Haye counting on Wladimir being healthy for fight, but prepared to fight Vitali

By Jason Kim: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) thinks that IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko’s abdominal injury will be fully healed by the time that they step in the ring to fight in June or July for a mega fight. However, Haye, 30, is prepared to fight WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (41-2, 38 KO’s) if Wladimir’s injury fails to heal in time for the fight.

Things aren’t looking exactly promising for Wladimir to make it to the fight because he’s already been having brothers with the abdominal injury for the past three months, causing him to pull out of two fights with unbeaten British heavyweight Dereck Chisora. The injury can easily still be present in another three to four months time because Wladimir will need to start training soon for the Haye bout and with an abdominal injury, it could very well get re-injured again and again.

Haye tells Sky Sports News that Wladimir is the one that he wants to fight, not Vitali. However, because of the contract stating that Vitali would be the back in case Wladimir is injured, Haye has little choice but to take the fight. It’s a no-brainer because Haye will still make huge bucks no matter which Klitschko he ends up fighting in June or July. Haye prefers Wladimir, no doubt because of his weak chin, but with Haye’s retirement coming up in October, he can’t afford to not fight at least one of the Klitschkos in his next fight.

Haye has his mind set on the Wladimir fight, seeing his weakness against fast fighters and big punchers as something he can take advantage of. However, Haye’s plans could be ultimately spoiled if Wladimir’s injury doesn’t heal.
