Image: De La Hoya sees Pacquiao-Mayweather fight happening, thinks Floyd will winBy Dave Lahr: Former boxing great Oscar De La Hoya knows talent when he sees it and he predicts that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will beat Manny Pacquiao when they step in the ring and finally start trading blows. De La Hoya, speaking to Reuters, says that he sees the fight Pacquiao-Mayweather fight happening and Mayweather coming out victorious in the fight.

I agree with De La Hoya. Mayweather is just another level compared to Pacquiao and I see this as a one-sided fight with Mayweather schooling Pacquiao for 12 lopsided rounds. Pacquiao is currently scheduled to fight Shane Mosley, one of Mayweather’s leftover opponents that he beat. It’s kind of sad that Pacquiao is facing a guy that Mayweather Jr. just soundly beat, but what can you say?

In the Reuters interview, De La Hoya said “I believe the fight [Mayweather vs. Pacquiao] will take place…I see Floyd Mayweather winning and I say that not only as an ex-fighter and a promoter but as a student of the game…Mayweather has the style to beat anybody.”

Yes, I agree with De La Hoya. Mayweather would beat the stuffing out of Pacquiao, and turn him black and blue. It would simply be embarrassing to watch because Mayweather would have so many opportunities to counter Pacquiao because of Manny’s primitive fighting style. We already saw what Juan Manuel Marquez did to Pacquiao in their two fights, and Mayweather is an even better counter puncher than Marquez. It would be too easy. Even Marquez predicted that Mayweather would beat Pacquiao. Now all we need is for Pacquiao and Mayweather to get in the ring so that Mayweather can prove what many people already know. Pacquiao is a good fighter, especially in his catchweight fights. He’s hard to beat when he has a good catchweight handicap working for him.
