Sierra vs. Davis on Saturday night: The Panchito Sierra Renaissance

By Rulex Alvarez: A great fight will be happening on Saturday night at the Maywood Activity Center, in Maywood, California, when Francisco Sierra (23-3, 21 KO’s) takes on Dyah Davis (18-2, 9 KO’s). The good thing about upcoming fighters who don’t have the backup of an entire TV studio (**cough**Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Saul Canelo Alavarez), or are lucky enough to be related to a former champion, is that they really have to take the risks and develop their talent facing real opposition unlike some current cherry-picking champions.

Sierra’s debut in the USA was not very good, as he was over matched against the hard hitting Edison Miranda in a stoppage loss in October 2009. The referee stopped the fight after a hard hit by Miranda in the back of Sierra’s head that dropped Sierra in a scary looking way. Only his ego was hurt on that fight and he got right back up to knock out his next three opponents, including Don George (20-1-1, 17 KO’s), who was unbeaten at the time and he lost his zero to the relentless attack and power of Sierra. However, George had only fought against soft opposition until that fight and experienced what some hype jobs will pretty soon endure when matched against real opponents.

Dyah Davis is returning to the ring hungry for a victory, coming off an unanimous decision loss to Aaron Pryor Jr. (15-3, 11 KO’s) in a fight that he clearly lost but evidenced Pryor’s flaws that led to his recent loss.

Expect some action in this one. Sierra needs to learn how to box better, but his power is impressive. If he lands a big one on Davis, he will definitely win by KO.
