Image: Why does Floyd Mayweather Sr. insist that his son avoid Pacquiao?By Frank Livingstone: There has been an eerie silence from Floyd Mayweather Jr. since his last interview wherein he mentioned his interest in fighting the winner of the Paul Williams vs. Sergio Martinez fight. It seems that his father is doing the talking for him in terms of his boxing future. Floyd Sr is quite vocal and emotional whenever the topic of Pacquiao is mentioned during his interviews. He even made it a point for his son to avoid Pacquiao at all cost.

On the other hand, in his latest interview, he actually praised Manny Pacquiao’s achievements. Praise may not be the right word but he may be indirectly mocking him. “no little man in the history of boxing has ever done what Manny Pacquiao has done, he fears for his sons life against Pacman, that little man will take big punches like they are nothing and could even fight Wladimir Klitschko at heavyweight.

Floyd Sr was the trainer of Ricky Hatton and was on his corner when he witnessed the demolition of Hatton in the second round. What was going on in Floyd Sr’s mind at that point? Shock and Awe is an understatement as Floyd Sr quickly left the ring without even checking if Ricky Hatton was alright.

What happens next is anyone’s guess as all of a sudden the phrase “He must be on something” came into play. Everyone knows the reason for the breakdown of the first negotiation to set up the mega-fight and that is Floyd Jr’s insistence of an Olympic style Random Blood Testing. Manny Pacquiao has passed all the mandatory testing conducted by the Boxing Commission.

But there is still doubt in my mind on the real reason on why the fight had not happened. “No little man in the history of boxing has ever done Manny Pacquiao has done”. Is it just a matter of a father protecting his son from danger? It is either the danger of the unknown or the danger of losing.
