By Francisco Hernandez: It could be that in the proximate future Julio Cesar Chavez junior could be fighting David Lemieux. If Lemieux gets past Marco Antonio Rubio he will be in position to fight Chavez junior if Chavez gets a win against Billy Lyell and then titlist Sebastian Zbik of Germany.

Chavez junior is a big middleweight at six foot tall, Lemieux is two inches shorter than Chavez, but Lemieux is strong as a bull. Chavez vs. Lemieux has the makings of a mega-fight if it ever materializes, this type of fights can inject new vigor into boxing. I have no doubt that in Canada this fight can fill up stadiums, the same in Mexico and Las Vegas.

Chavez junior has the advantage of having an astute wolf of boxing strategy in his corner, trainer Freddie Roach. All the experience and tactics learned from Roach’s time with Manny Pacquiao will be utilized to make Chavez junior the next cash maker for Arum. Yet Chavez junior has the disadvantage of barely being able to make the middleweight division; he comes in drained and doesn’t have the power to kayo people in the middleweight division. Freddie will have to work on these problems to make Chavez more competitive, otherwise Chavez will not last long once he steps up in competition.

David Lemieux has the advantage of great punching power; this young fighter has anesthetized most of his opponents. Lemieux is a rare breed of boxer nowadays, he knows how to punch. Most boxers today only know how to throw arm punches, Today’s trainers don’t have the knowledge of how to teach their pupils power punching, it’s a lost art, that’s why there are so few kayos in boxing today. A puncher like Lemieux will always have a chance at winning a fight. A fight between David Lemieux and Julio Cesar Chavez junior will be full of fireworks; both fighters like to slug and never take a step back. The outcome of the fight will likely be determined by which fighter is able to back up the other one.

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez looks like he is pumping iron, and this will lead to him building excess muscle, he could end up in the middleweight division in about a year. A fight between Canelo and Lemieux also has the makings of a mega-fight. Canelo and Lemieux look physically alike, they are about the same size, both have power and enjoy slugging it out.

Saul Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez junior is also a fight many fans want to watch. There is a healthy rivalry between the two fighters to win over Mexican fans. Canelo is smaller than Chavez junior, but like Lemieux, Canelo is stronger than Chavez.

There is no reason why these three fights cannot happen soon. Promoters should stop playing around with bull manure and make these fights happen. What are they waiting for? Promoters are killing boxing when they don’t materialize these types of fights which fans are eager to watch. Instead they are wasting time pitting these young men against inconsequential opponents in trivial boxing events.

Promoters are mired in staging trivial fights, for some reason they are allergic to staging mega-fights. The public on the contrary is avid for big events; people look forward to going to a wedding, to a festival, carnival, any celebration, because it is a special event, it makes life less boring, gives life flavor. A big boxing event is the same, for a few hours fans become part of something great. Yet boxing promoters have forgotten this, they look at boxing as if it was a reality show or soap opera. Promoters have taken the “big event” out of boxing and tried to make it a reality show.

As a boxing fan I hope these horse manure Promoters will regain their senses and begin staging real good fights, big events for the public to enjoy, to jump out of their seats screaming at the top of their lungs for their fighter, while they drink a good cold beer and munch on some hot dogs, tacos, or pizza.
