Haye to possibly fight Chagaev next depending on his medical condition

Image: Haye to possibly fight Chagaev next depending on his medical conditionBy Sean McDaniel WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) has been left out in the cold by IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, who instead of fighting Haye on July 2nd, will be fighting Dereck Chisora on April 30th and then Tomasz Adamek in September. Haye is left to try and put together a fight with his mandatory challenger former World Boxing Association heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev (27-1-1, 17 KO’s).

That’s a fight that won’t make nearly as much money as the Klitschko bout nor will it draw much interest, and yet it’s a very dangerous fight for Haye because Chagaev is powerful, a southpaw and sturdy enough to stay alive long enough to really test Haye’s chin. However, there may be a way out for Haye from having to take this fight and that depends on how Chagaev’s medical reports look.

Chagaev reportedly had a case of hepatitis B at one point in his career, and hasn’t fought outside of Germany for ages since way back in 2004. If this condition is still present, Chagaev likely won’t have much of a chance of traveling to England and fighting Haye. That will then get Haye out of the Chagaev fight and give him some breathing room to take on one of the less experienced heavyweights like WBA #2 ranked contender Denis Boytsov.

That would be a dangerous fight as well for Haye, but at least Boytsov punches from the orthodox stance and has zero experience fighting upper level heavyweight competition. Boytsov would be going from facing B and C level guys straight into facing one of the best heavyweights in the world. This would obviously give Haye a huge advantage that I’m sure he would really like.
