Lucas Browne says his test was negative when he arrived in Russia

browne4333By Scott Gilfoid: WBA heavyweight champion Lucas Browne says he arrived in Russia clean as far as drug testing goes for his March 5 fight against former WBA champion Ruslan Chagaev in Grozny. Browne, 36, says he was tested by VADA for blood and urine when he first arrived in Russia.

After his 10th round knockout win over the 37-year-old Chagaev on 3/5, Browne was given a urine test. Browne says his first test when he arrived in Russia was a negative one. He says he has evidence that his test was negative. However, somehow between the first test and the second test, something happened to cause Browne to test positive.

Was Lucas Browne’s food or drink contaminated?

browne54By Jeff Aranow: With the news of WBA heavyweight champion Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne testing positive for the banned weight-stripping drug Clenbuterol from his recent fight against Ruslan Chagaev earlier this month on March 5th, it has some boxing fans wondering whether the 36-year-old Browne was the recipient of having his food or drink spiked with the drug.

The fight took place in Grozny, Russia, the home country of Chagaev. Browne denies taking the drug Clenbuterol, and he sees it as silly the very idea that a heavyweight would use a weight – ridding drug like that when weight is the least of a heavyweight’s concern.

Lucas Browne fails post-fight drug test, could be stripped of title

browne4333By Allan Fox: In shocking news, WBA heavyweight champion Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne (24-0, 21 KOs) allegedly failed his post-fight drug test for his recent fight against WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev (34-3, 21 KOs) on March 5 if this month at the Colosseum Sport Hall, in Grozny, Russia. It’s going to be interesting to see if Browne winds up not only losing his WBA title, but also being suspended and/or fined. It’s quite possible that the ‘B’ sample will clear Browne if there was something wrong with the testing for sample ‘A.’ What’s unknown is whether Browne’s food or drink was contaminated in any way while he was abroad.

Browne tested positive for a Clebbuterol with his “A” sample, according to ESPN.com. Browne has a second sample that will be tested by VADA, but that one hasn’t been tested yet. The positive test for Browne could lead to him being stripped and the results of the fight downgraded to a no decision. That’s likely going to be the case unfortunately for Browne.

Lucas Browne stops Ruslan Chagaev, wins WBA title

chagaev4By Scott Gilfoid: In a huge upset win, Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne (24-0, 21 KOs) scored a tremendous 10th round stoppage win over WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev (34-3-1, 21 KOs) to capture the WBA title on Saturday night at the Colosseum Sport Hall, in Grozny, Russia.

Browne caught Chagaev with a big right hand in the 10th to put him on the canvas. After a badly hurt Chagaev got back to his feet, Browne flurried on him until the fight was halted by referee Stanley Christodoulou. Chagaev was still on his feet, but he was finished. The crowd didn’t like the stoppage, but if the fight wasn’t halted, we would have seen Chagaev on the canvas in short order.

Lucas Browne challenges Ruslan Chagaev tonight

Image: Lucas Browne challenges Ruslan Chagaev tonightBy Scott Gilfoid: #2 WBA Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne (23-0, 20 KOs) will be attempting to capture a world title tonight against WBA “regular” heavyweight world champion Ruslan Chagaev (34-2-1, 21 KOs) at the Colossseum Sport-Hall in Grozny, Russia. Browne weighed in at his lowest weight of his seven-year pro career in coming in at 249lbs.

This is a good weight for the 36-year-old Browne, who has been high as 273lbs just two years ago for his fight against Eric Martel Bahoeli in 2014. The weight hopefully isn’t a sign that Browne overstrained in getting ready for this contest.

Browne isn’t the youngest of heavyweight challengers at 36, and this might be his last chance at fighting for a world title. You would have to hope that he didn’t overdo it during training.

Ruslan Chagaev vs. Lucas Browne this Saturday night in Grozny

Image: Ruslan Chagaev vs. Lucas Browne this Saturday night in GroznyBy Jim Dower: #2 WBA Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne (23-0, 20 KOs) will be challenging for the title this Saturday night against WBA World heavyweight champion Ruslan “White Tyson” Chagaev (34-2-1, 21 KOs) in a fight at the Colosseum Sport Hall, in Grozny, Russia. This is a big deal for the 36-year-old Browne because he’s wanted to fight for a world title since he turned pro seven years ago in 2009.

Browne is finally getting a chance and he wants to make the most of this opportunity. At 6’5”, 255lbs, Browne has the size and the punching power to get the 36-year-old Chagaev out of there quick if the Russian fighter decides he wants to stand and trade with him.

Knowing Chagaev, he likely will accommodate Browne by looking to slug with him. If Browne catches Chagaev with anything big in the early going, then we could see Chagaev start to box so that he doesn’t get hit with anything too big.

Ruslan Chagaev vs. Lucas Browne still scheduled for March 5

MDR-160612-Browne-v-Rasani-19By Scott Gilfoid: Despite the rumors that have been floating around the internet about the title fight between WBA “regular” heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev (34-2-1, 21 KOs) and #2 WBA Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne (23-0, 20 KOs) being off, Hatton Promotions is reporting that the fight is still on for March 5 at the Colosseum Sport Hall, in Grozny, Russia.

It seems that false rumors sprung up on social media over the weekend, making some boxing fans believe the fight is off.

Well, that’s a load off my mind. I mean, I’m not all that interested in the Chagaev-Browne title fight because I don’t see Chagaev as the true heavyweight champion in the division. Heck, I don’t even see Chagaev as the third best heavyweight.
