By Michael Lieberman: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) got the bad news today that IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) has broken off negotiations with him and will instead be fighting Britain’s Dereck Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) on April 30th instead of Haye. This really makes a mess of Haye’s big plans on fighting Wladimir and then quickly taking on his brother before retiring before his birthday on October 13th this year.

Haye has been saying that he won’t wait around for the Klitschkos and will retire regardless. Instead of waiting for Wladimir, because it doesn’t look like he’s all that eager to fight him, Haye needs to consider going after his older brother WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (41-2, 38 KO’s), who has an easy title defense coming up against the overweight Odlanier Solis. Klitschko should dispatch Solis without any problems and without suffering a scratch.

Haye would then perhaps get a fight with Vitali by May if everything goes right. Vitali is very eager to fight Haye unlike Wladimir. The question is would Haye be interested in facing Vitali first? That would be a very tough fight for Haye because Vitali is someone that Haye wouldn’t be able to bowl over like Audley Harrison. Haye would have to figure that he’s going to get hit a lot, and take a lot of punishment in order to get a win. Haye would have to run even more than he did in his win over Nikolay Valuev.

It’s doubtful that Haye would beat Vitali throwing only 10 punches per round like he did against Valuev. But if that’s the only chance for Haye to fight one of the Klitschkos in the near future, he really needs to consider that option. It might be waste of time for Haye to keep pursuing Wladimir because he doesn’t appear to be eager to fight. Actions speak louder than words, and Wladimir’s actions suggest that he doesn’t really want the Haye fight. Haye needs to wake up to this reality, and fight the Klitschko that is eager to fight him – Vitali.
