By William Mackay: According to the latest news, World Boxing Council super middleweight champion Carl Froch could be facing 42-year-old Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KO’s) on May 21st at three possible venues of Montreal, England or Las Vegas. Froch says he wants the fight to take place in England. However, it’s up in the air right now where the fight will ultimately land. Froch was recently sick with the flu, which made an earlier March 19th date undo-able.

In an interview at the BBC Radio 5 Live, Froch said “Of my last four fights, only one was at home and that was at 3 AM in the morning. I would love England to give my fans the chance to see me in action, but this is world-class boxing and sometimes you have to get away to the States.”

Froch won his last fight against Arthur Abraham by a lopsided 12 round decision last November in a very important fight for Froch. Going into the bout, Froch was talking retirement if he lost the fight. However, he performed well and dominated a demoralized and badly out-gunned Abraham in that fight.

Speaking about the Abraham fight, Froch said “If I had lost to Abraham or struggled or lost a split decision, that could have been the end of me.”

Froch has a really tough fight ahead of him against Johnson, who looked sensational in defeating Allan Green by an 8th round TKO in his first fight in the Super Six tournament last November. Johnson looked like a fighter 10 years younger as he stalked Green around the ring punishing him with shots.

Froch is going to have figure out a way to slow Johnson down or else he could end up losing for the second time in the tourney and end up being eliminated. Froch already was beaten by Mikkel Kessler last April, and many people think Froch really lost his first fight of the Super Six against Andre Dirrell in October 2009. Froch beat Dirrell by a 12 round split decision while fighting at home in Nottingham, England. Johnson may not want to fight Froch in the UK unless he can knock him out, because the Dirrell decision wasn’t a popular one.
