Dzinziruk calls Martinez Slow and clumsy

By Chris Williams: WBO junior middleweight champion Sergeii Dzinziruk (37-0, 23 KO’s) will be challenging WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (46-2-2, 25 KO’s) on March 12th at the Foxwoods Resort Casino, Mashantucket, Connecticut.

Dzinziruk, 34, isn’t the least bit afraid of Martinez nor is he all that impressed with him either. In an interview at fightnews.com, Dzinziruk describes Martinez as “slow, tightened, clumsy and rigid.” I do agree with Dzinziruk about Martinez being slow and tight. He seems to lack hand speed and he fights like he just finished a hard workout and has very little flexibility. Not sure what the problem is in that area for Martinez, but maybe the guy needs to stretch more and focus on lifting lighter weights instead of shooting for power.

Dzinziruk is probably the purest boxer that Martinez has ever faced in his career, as up until this point, Martinez has been feasting on guys like Kelly Pavlik, Kermit Cintron, Alex Bunema and Paul Williams, just to name a few. Those fighters aren’t boxers, and this has allowed Martinez to use his better boxing skills to beat them. Martinez fought to a draw against Cintron, but he should have won that fight because the referee really blew it when Martinez knocked Cintron out but the referee thought it was a headbutt.

Dzinziruk hasn’t faced the same kind of competition as Martinez , but he’s beaten some respectable names like Joel Julio, Lukas Konecny, Daniel Santos, Daniel Dawson and Sebastian Andres Lujan. Dzinziruk has looked really good in those fights with jabs and combinations. Those guys are quality fighters, albeit not huge punchers like Cintron and Pavlik.
