Bradley and Alexander could face each other again

By Dan Ambrose: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan may have to wait for WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (21-0, 13 KO’s) and WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (26-0, 11 KO’s) to fight each other a second time before Khan gets a shot at the winner, because there reportedly a rematch clause in the contract for the Bradley-Alexander fight on January 29th at the Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan.

Why they would put a rematch clause is beyond me because ticket sales aren’t good for this fight and these two guys need to move in different directions after this fight is finished rather than fighting each other immediately and wasting time. It’s a rematch that can possibly get in the way of the more important unification bout against Khan, and that’s the fight that boxing fans really want to see, not a second fight between Bradley and Alexander.

These guys fighting each other will never create the same kind of noise that they will if they move past each other and start looking to pick off guys like Khan, the winner of the Zab Judah vs. Kaizer Mabuza fight and someone like Victor Ortiz.

Right now, it’s too early in Bradley and Alexander’s career for these guys to start locking themselves into rematch clauses for fights that boxing fans don’t give a hoot about. I can see Bradley or Alexander becoming popular if they beat Khan and some of the other top light welterweights, but they won’t help themselves if they shut out the world and start fighting each other over and over again. That’s silly and a waste of time.
