Haye wants the Vitali vs. Solis winner

By Sean McDaniel: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) recently failed in getting a fight against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in July. Haye will now be targeting the winner of the March 19th fight between WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (41-2, 38 KO’s) and Odlanier Solis (17-0, 12 KO’s). Haye hopes to fight the Solis-Klitschko winner this year provided Haye wins his next fight against possibly Ruslan Chagaev if he’s able to pass his medical test in order to fight in the UK.

In an article at the express.co.uk, Haye’s manager/trainer, Adam Booth, had this to say about Haye facing the winner of the Vitali vs. Solis fight:

“I just hope Vitali has a bigger set of man jewels than his brother, who should go into politics and work as a spin doctor. The Wladimir Klitschko fight is dead in the water. He didn’t want it, simple as that, but David Haye’s career does not revolve around him. I just hope Vitali has a bigger set of man jewels than his brother, who should go into politics and work as a spin doctor. The Wladimir Klitschko fight is dead in the water. He didn’t want it, simple as that, but David Haye’s career does not revolve around him. Unlike all the 50-odd opponents who Wladimir has fought, David is not going to sit around waiting for him. Vitali Klitschko’s fight with Solis for the WBC title is interesting because, if Vitali wins, David would love to take him on. If Solis wins, it will be a rematch of their fight in the world amateur championships, where Solis won and David took the silver. That would be a great fight.”

This is kind of interesting because the general consensus is that Haye didn’t want anything to do with the steel-chinned and hard hitting Vitali Klitschko because he’s a fighter that not only hits hard, but he’s almost impossible to knock out. Since Haye’s whole game is based on knocking fighters out rather than winning decisions, he’s going to have major problems against Vitali.

It’s hard to see Haye winning this fight because it’s not easy to land to Vitali’s head and he’s got a good jab and left hook. It could be that Haye is looking to get a huge payday no matter what before he retires since the Wladimir fight doesn’t look like it will ever happen. Haye wants to retire when he turns 31 later this year in October. He doesn’t have a lot of time left and has to go after one of the Klitschkos if he’s to get a huge payday before he hands up his gloves for good.
