Floyd Mayweather JR: What does the Future Hold?

By Edgar Solorzano: Some say that every fighter has their ups and downs, while others believe it’s the choice’s the fighters make what defines them and their future. Whether this is true or false, there’s one fighter that can relate to this statements, and that’s Floyd Mayweather Jr. Not too long ago boxing fans and Mayweather critics were starting to show respect to the undefeated five-division world champion. It was on May 1st when Floyd Mayweather successfully defeated “Sugar” Shane Mosley. It was supposed to be one of Mayweather’s toughest fights of his career. Although Floyd Mayweather Jr. has had a successful boxing career and some impressive victories over the past years, it seems like he has been struggling with legal problems and too much drama off the ring.

It’s hard not to bring Pacquiao up when we hear the name Mayweather. We all know that Mayweather vs. Pacquiao has the potential to be “The Fight of The Century.” But at this point Mayweather seems too distracted with legal problems, making the fight seem fictional. One question everyone seems to be asking is, what does the future hold for Mayweather? I believe Floyd Mayweather will be fine, once he takes care of all his problems; he will start training again and will be back in the ring soon. Failure only makes you strong enough to break any wall that gets in your way. These problems can either distract Floyd or motivate him to try to be the pound for pound king and give the fans that golden fight they have been asking for.

Just remember that Floyd Mayweather Jr. fights once a year, he has plenty of time to get ready for the double battle he faces in every fight. He has to win the respect of those who think he’s a coward and the win for his legacy. Not too many people respect Mayweather’s boxing skills. A fighter like Floyd Mayweather Jr. is rare, like a quick turtle. Fight-fans should appreciate his skills; he may be cocky and can cross the line at times. But you don’t have to respect his lifestyle. However, it would be ignorant if you can’t respect Mayweather’s boxing skills. The future may have good treasure and money for Floyd, but he will have to follow the right path to find it. Don’t expect Mayweather to fight the Filipino eight-division world champion yet.

No one really knows why Mayweather hasn’t stepped up to fight Pacquiao. I believe is the right choice, in a business point of view. I’m not saying this to protect Mayweather’s perfect record or say he’s a coward. If Mayweather fights Pacquiao he will be risking too much, not just risking his record, but money as well. Think about it, if Mayweather wins the fight he might earn the respect of boxing fans. But he might not make as much money after. Defeating someone like Pacquiao, who’s a tremendous fighter may make the undefeated champ look unbeatable. After that they won’t be too many good fighters for Floyd. Sergio Martinez will be the only one left for him. So why pay for future Mayweather fights if he defeats the Pac-Man? That’s the only answer fans want to find out and witness. Whether Floyd can pull off a victory against Manny Pacquiao, a tremendous puncher that has bullied top warriors in the welterweight divsion.

Makes sense that Mayweather could fight few fights before facing Manny Pacquiao, to make more money and get richer. Since that’s Floyd’s favorite hobby, making money. It may sound wrong and bad for the sport, but that’s Mayweather’s choice, and all we can do is respect it. Let’s all hope Floyd fixes his legal problems and can some day step in the ring against the eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao, who many believe is the real pound for pound king.
