The Froch-Abraham winner has to worry about Glen Johnson now

By Scott Gilfoid: Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KO’s) definitely made a statement last Saturday night in taking out Allan Green (29-3, 20 KO’s) with a big right hand in the 8th round of their Super Six tournament fight at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. With this win, the 41-year-old Johnson will now wait on the winner of the Super Six match between Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) and Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s) on November 27th to find out who his next opponent will be in the tourney.

Either one of those guys are going to have their hands full with Johnson, because he doesn’t look his age and the way he dominated Green, he’s certainly not fighting his age either.

Froch might have a little more of a teeny chance against Johnson because he tends to throw more punches compared to Abraham. However, even Froch doesn’t throw nearly as many punches as Johnson typically does and I see him getting beaten up and sent packing in the tournament, if he should get by Abraham first.

Abraham just doesn’t throw enough punches for his own good and will end up getting outworked by Johnson. Abraham lives and dies by the knockout, and if he’s unable to knock out one of his opponents, he’s then dependent on the judges to give him a decision.

If the fight takes place in Germany, I think Abraham might win a home town decision. But if you place Abraham-Johnson in a neutral city, I see Johnson winning 100 out of a 100 times. He’s just a much better fighter than Abraham and has a better work rate and a steel chin that’s immune to the power punches from sluggers like Abraham.

Froch would be an easy win for Johnson, because Froch’s inside game is limited to holding and hitting and throwing rabbit punches. This kind of thing won’t fly against a skilled fighter like Johnson. Even if the referee lets Froch body slam, throw rabbit shots and hold and hit to his heart’s desire, I still see Johnson beating Froch with power shots on the inside.

Johnson can be beaten by fighters that stick and move, like the talented trio Andre Dirrell and Andre Ward. But you put a couple of plodders in with Johnson like Abraham and Froch, and Johnson will win every time without fail. I can wait until Johnson gets in with the winner of the Abraham vs. Froch fight. This is going to be interesting to see Johnson show his stuff off against a couple of limited plodders.
