Image: Khan picks Haye to beat Harrison and the KlitschkosBy William Mackay: World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan is picking WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (24-1, 22 KO’s) to beat Audley Harrison (27-4, 20 KO’s) this Saturday night by a 6th or 7th round stoppage. Khan is going along with the general consensus of boxing fans and writers alike with this pick, because few people are picking the 39-year-old Harrison to win this fight. Harrison only recently has gotten into the top 15, and has been an underachiever during his pro career after winning a Gold Medal in the 2000 Olympics.

However, where Khan seems to go a little off the radar screen with his picks is his belief that Haye can not only beat Harrison, but also the Klitschko brothers. Obviously, Khan and Haye are friends and come from the same country but this seems like a bizarre pick because Haye has looked mediocre in beating Nikolay Valuev, Monte Barrett and John Ruiz at heavyweight.

Speaking to the Telegraph.co.uk, Khan said “I see David [Haye] winning in six or seven rounds. David will win that fight [Haye vs. Harrison]. He has more world class experience. He has to fight the Klitschkos if he wants to make a lot more money. If he wants to unify the titles, he has to fight them. I think he can beat the Klitschkos because he has the style and the movement to beat them. He has the speed to beat them, because they’re straight up fighters. The only one to beat them in the division is David.”

Khan also said that his trainer Freddie Roach believes that Haye will beat the Klitschkos. That sounds like wishful thinking. Roach worked briefly with Wladimir but that was it. I think Haye’s talent is about on the same level as Valuev, whom he went life and death with last year. Haye could end getting knocked out by Harrison this Saturday if he’s not careful. At 6’2″ 217, Haye will be giving up four inches in height to Harrison and over 30 pounds in weight. Haye has an advantage in that Harrison doesn’t use his reach to jab effectively from the outside the way he needs to.

The Klitschko brothers do use their reach, and Haye would be getting tagged all night long while running around on the outside. It would be a fight in which Haye would be forced to rush both of the Klitschko brothers as fast as he could because he would very quickly get blinded by their jabs. I give Haye zero chance of beating either of them, and I’m not a fan of theirs. I just see Haye as terribly undersized and not equipped for the job.
