Speaking with Sky Sports News, Jones said “If you [Klitschko] want some, give me a call. I know you’re running out of opponents.” This would be a fight where Wladimir would take an abnormal amount of criticism if he accepted it, because Jones has lost his last two fights and hasn’t been a real factor in boxing for the past six years when he was knocked out cold in two rounds by Antonio Tarver back in 2004.

Jones was then stopped by Glen Johnson in his next fight and then beaten once again by Tarver in a rematch in 2005, although this time it was by a 12 round decision. Jones was staggered late in that fight and likely would have been stopped had he come to fight instead of play it safe. Jones did win a heavyweight title over John Ruiz back in 2003, but that was many years ago and it was against a small heavyweight.

Wladimir didn’t seem interested in fighting Jones, hinting that Jones needs to look into another career. Jones would be at a huge disadvantage against Klitschko due to Jones’ lack of size. At 5’11”, he would be giving away seven inches in height and seven inches in reach. Even if Jones were to bulk up to 190+ like he did in his win over Ruiz, he’d still be giving away around 50 pounds. And with his weak chin, Jones would likely get knocked out in the 1st round unless Wladimir were to take it easy on him to give the fans something to see.

Wladimir is facing Derek Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) on December 11th. Chisora, 6’1”, has about as much of a chance to beat Wladimir as Jones. However, Chisora will at least be able to soak up punishment for five, maybe six rounds, before Wladimir takes him out.
