Image: Pacquiao says he's not looking to fight MayweatherBy Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KO’s) all of a sudden says he’s not looking to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. (41-0, 25 KO’s) now. It’s hard to see what has made Pacquiao change his mind about wanting to fight the cash cow of boxing but something seems to have turned Pacquiao off towards wanting to fight Mayweather.

In a recent interview on Friday, Pacquiao said “I’m looking for that fight [speaking of Mayweather]. I’m satisfied with what I’ve done in boxing already,” according to news from the Bostonherald.com.

This is very interesting, because the Mayweather bout is the one that most boxing fans want to see, not fights against guys like Antonio Margarito, Joshua Clottey or rematches against Miguel Cotto.

If Pacquiao isn’t planning on fighting Mayweather, then who is he planning on fighting? Does this mean that boxing fans will have to pay $55 to watch Pacquiao destroy Cotto again?

I really don’t see the point in that fight. And I don’t see much point in beating up Margarito either, not after Shane Mosley took him apart last year. Pacquiao wants to win an 8th world title, and that’s he’s moving up to go after the vacant WBC junior middleweight title. He’s collecting titles at this point, which I suppose is something that will help validate his career. It would be nice if Pacquiao would change his mind about wanting to fight Mayweather, because that’s the fight that pretty much every one cares about.

It would be such a shame to see Pacquiao ending his career fighting Cotto again, Margarito again (because I think they’ll rematch even if Pacquiao destroys Margarito), and then someone like Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. If Pacquiao isn’t going to fight Mayweather, then I would like to see him step up and fight Sergio Martinez, James Kirkland, Alfredo Angulo, Paul Williams, Mike Jones, Juan Manuel Marquez, Amir Khan, Timothy Bradley, Devon Alexander, or Andre Berto.

I know Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum says he doesn’t want to help make a name for some other promoter’s fighter, but it makes a lot of sense for Arum to do this. The reason is because by helping out another promoter and making their fighter popular, then that’s one more fighter for Arum’s Top Rank stable fighters to compete with.

You can’t keep throwing Cotto and Margarito out there to fight Pacquiao without it boring the public. But Pacquiao needs to change his mind about fighting Mayweather.
