Image: Haye still plans on retiring at 30By Sean McDaniel: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (24-1, 22 KO’s) is still saying he’s going to retire by his 30th birthday next year, according to boxing news from ESPN.cp.uk. Haye, 29, says “I’ve said from when I turned pro I’ll retire when I’m 30, so that gives me until October 13 next year. A lot of people think it’s a stupid deadline.

“It made a lot more sense when I was 17. Now that I’m closing in on 30 and there are these massive fights around the corner, 30 perhaps isn’t as old as I thought it once was. Now there are potential multi-million pound fights against anyone I want, people seem to think it’s a silly thing to do. But I’ve always stuck to my guns.”

That sounds like some rigid thinking by Haye. It looks like he’s going to stick to the course he set out as a teenager despite having grown up.

Haye is on the cusp of possibly achieving big things in the heavyweight division in terms of winning additional titles and making millions. At this rate, it doesn’t look as if Haye will accomplish some of the other goals that he set out for himself when he moved up to the heavyweight division in 2008, such as fighting and beating both Klitschko brothers and unifying the heavyweight titles.

Unless Haye speeds up his schedule of fights, he may not be able to achieve his goal of unifying the titles and beating both of the Klitschko brothers.

Haye can always stick around a little longer to fight those bouts, but it would mean altering his timeline a little. At this point a lot of fans think Haye won’t ever fight the Klitschko brothers. It’s up to him to prove the fans wrong.
