Image: Abraham-Dirrell: Arthur hoping to become a big star in U.S.By Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (31-0, 25 KO’s) is looking to put in a memorable performance on March 27th when he faces Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO’s) at the Joe Louis Arena, in Detroit, Michigan. Abraham, 30, says “If you want to be a big star in America, you have to give the people a reason to watch you. I understand that. It’s what Mike Tyson did, and it inspired me. I can inspire some young Americans the same way.” Abraham isn’t going to be making too many fans in the U.S. on March 27th, I hate to say. Dirrell will dominate this fight and beat Abraham like a bad habit.

Dirrell will control every part of this fight against the robot-fighting Abraham. I just hope Abraham can step up his game and make the fight interesting to watch, because what I’ve seen of him in his fights against Jermain Taylor, Mahir Oral and Lajuan Simon, Abraham looks old and slow. Dirrell, 26, is on his way up and still getting better and better with each fight.

Dirrell intends on beating Abraham in their stage 2 Super Six fight, and then moving on to the stage 3 bout against fellow American Andre Ward in 2010. I like Abraham somewhat as a fighter, but he just has too many question marks about him. The hand speed, the poor movement, the poor stamina and the mediocre opposition that he’s faced during his career. All of this leads me to believe that Abraham is going to have his backside handed to him on March 27th.

Dirrell will be fighting in front of a huge home town audience in Detroit, whereas Abraham, who lives and fights out of Germany, will be stepping into a foreign arena for only the third time in his entire seven year pro career. It will be nice to see what Abraham is capable of after seeing him against a slew of fighters I’ve never even heard of in Europe.

Dirrell presents a huge step up for Abraham, one too for perhaps for the former IBF middleweight champion. Abraham is one of the co-favorites to win the Super Six tournament. The other fighter is Ward, but I think he’s going to come up short as well. Dirrell will be bringing both of those fighters down to earth. Dirrell faces Ward in his stage 3 Super Six bout later on this year.
