Will Haye Retire If He Loses To Wladimir?

wladimir56By Michael Lieberman: With David Haye looking like the one that will be facing Wladimir Klitschko next, I wonder if Haye will retire if he loses? Although most fighters wouldn’t retire after a loss against a great fighter like Wladimir, but for Haye, it would be a major blow to him, especially since he’s been blasting Wladimir in the media for the past few months while trying to get a fight with him. In losing to him, it would leave Haye kind of empty handed with egg on his face.

It seems to me the only honorable thing he could do then is retire from the sport. The good part would be that he could retire well before 30, and not take any more punishment in the ring. Honestly, I don’t what else Haye could do if he loses to Wladimir.

I mean, he’s made it a goal to win a heavyweight title and if he comes up short, there’s probably no other choice for him but to retire. It isn’t like Haye would have a better chance at beating Vitali Klitschko, who has even a better chin than Wladimir and a better right hand to go along with it.

Haye probably wouldn’t want a second helping of a beating by another Klitschko, because it would almost be comical by then. Other than retirement, my recommendation is that Haye immediately move back down to the cruiserweight division and never come back up to the heavyweight division again.

Instead of engulfing himself in shame, he needs to banish himself to the cruiserweight level where he can once again rule the weaker division. He was doing well there beating the softer fighters, and probably should have never moved up to the heavyweight level in the first place.

I’ll respect him more if he retired immediately. There’s no point in carrying on if he can’t fulfill on his promise to beat Wladimir and he might as well just quit. There’s no shame in quitting.
