Erislandy Lara vs. Vanes Martirosyan this Saturday in WBC 154 lb eliminator

Image: Erislandy Lara vs. Vanes Martirosyan this Saturday in WBC 154 lb eliminatorBy Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten Vanes Martirosyan (32-0, 20 KO’s) faces his toughest test of his 7-year pro career this Saturday night in a WBC junior middleweight eliminator bout against Erislany Lara (17-1-1, 11 KO’s) at the Wynn Resort, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The winner of the HBO televised bout will become the mandatory challenger for WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, although it remains to be seen whether they’ll ever actually get a fight with him because some boxing fans see Alvarez vacating his title rather than fighting Lara or Martirosyan.

Martirosyan, a former 2004 U.S Olympian, has a lot of talent going for him. However, he’s not been rushed and has spent the last eight years of his career facing largely weak opposition and letting time slip buy without going after the title belts. It looks like his promoters at Top Rank believe he’s finally ready, hence his fight with the 29-year-old Lara.

Lara-Martirosyan: Fireworks on 11/10

Image: Lara-Martirosyan: Fireworks on 11/10By Dan Ambrose: Cuban Erislandy Lara (17-1-1, 11 KO’s) will be facing his first opponent with big power in unbeaten Vanes Martirosyan (32-0, 20 KO’s) in their WBC final 154 pound eliminator on November 10th at the Wynn Resort, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The winner of this fight gets a shot at WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez at some point in the hopefully not too distant future.

The Lara vs. Martirosyan bout is almost guaranteed to have fireworks from start to finish because both of these guys will be looking to slug. Lara, 29, is more of a single shot fighter in the Floyd Mayweather Jr. mold. He doesn’t tend to slug with his opponents very much, preferring to box and move so that he doesn’t get hit a lot. But in this fight he’s going to have to stand his ground because he’s not going to be able to pot shot his way to victory against Martirosyan.

Lara vs. Martirosyan: This should be a war

Image: Lara vs. Martirosyan: This should be a warBy Allan Fox: Cuban Erislandy Lara (17-1-1, 11 KO’s) is finally where he wants to be on the verge of earning himself a fight against WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez next year. The only thing that separates him from accomplishing his goal is a fight against unbeaten Vanes Martirosyan (32-0, 20 KO’s), who Lara will be fighting next month on November 10th at the Wynn Resort, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Lara and Martirosyan are #1 and #2 in the World Boxing Council rankings and fighting in a WBC final eliminator bout to get to the inexperienced 22-year-old Alvarez. The winner of this fight will get a crack against Alvarez next year some time as long as Alvarez doesn’t get the WBC to let him bypass the winner for a fight or two or if he vacates the belt. Anything is possible for Alvarez, because he seems to be not in a hurry to fight Lara and Martirosyan. He’s easy fights and those are the not easy to beat.

Lara hoping Canelo won’t vacate WBC title after he beats Martirosyan

Image: Lara hoping Canelo won't vacate WBC title after he beats MartirosyanBy Dan Ambrose: #1 WBC Erislandy Lara (17-1-1, 11 KO’s) is hoping that WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez does the honorable thing and decides to face him without vacating his belt after Lara defeats #2 WBC Vanes Martirosyan (32-0, 20 KO’s) on November 10th at the Wynn Resort, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Martirosyan needs to raise his game to beat Lara

Image: Martirosyan needs to raise his game to beat LaraBy Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten light middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan (32-0, 20 KO’s) is really going to have to raise his game if he expects to get past Erislandy Lara (17-1-1, 11 KO’s) next month on November 10th in their WBC final eliminator bout at the Wynn Resort, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This is a tough bout that could go either way, but you have to consider the 29-year-old Cuban Lara as the favorite in this fight based on his accuracy, power, speed, and southpaw stance. Lara can really do it all, and it’s going to be hard to find someone that can beat him while he’s in the prime of his career.

WBC to force Saul Alvarez to fight Lara-Martirosyan winner in early 2013 or he’ll be stripped of title

Image: WBC to force Saul Alvarez to fight Lara-Martirosyan winner in early 2013 or he'll be stripped of titleBy Dan Ambrose: WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will have to fight the winner of the November 10th WBC 154 pound eliminator bout between Erislandy Lara and Vanes Martirosyan by early 2013 or the World Boxing Council will strip the 22-year-old Alvarez of his title.

WBC president Jose Sulaiman said to eastsideboxing.com “Saul Alvarez must defend his title against the winner of the November 10th contest between Vanes Martirosyan and Erislandy Lara.”

This is definitely a good thing because it’s getting incredibly old see Alvarez fight light welterweights like Josesito Lopez and welterweights like Matthew Hatton and Alfonso Gomez. Golden Boy Promotions has been spoon feeding Alvarez for the past couple of years and it’s time he finally faces a quality contender.

Image: Salido-Garcia & Martirosyan-Lara doubleheader set for November 10th on HBOBy Jason Kim: HBO will be putting on one of their better cards for this November 10th with a doubleheader show headlined by WBO featherweight champion Orlando Salido (39-11-2, 27 KO’s) defending his title against unbeaten challenger Miguel “Mikey” Garcia (29-0, 25 KO’s) and junior middleweight contenders Erislandy Lara (17-1-1, 11 KO’s) going up against Vanes Martirosyan (32-0, 20 KO’s) at the Wynn Resort, in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.

According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, Showtime had the chance to match the offer to get the fight but they passed on it, perhaps realizing that none of these guys are real big names in the United States. The fights are great, but Lara, Martirosyan, Salido and Garcia are still guys without a substantial fan base in the U.S at this time.

Orlando Salido vs. Mikey Garcia & Martirosyan vs. Lara on November 10th in Las Vegas

Image: Orlando Salido vs. Mikey Garcia & Martirosyan vs. Lara on November 10th in Las VegasBy Jason Kim: on November 10th, WBO featherweight champion Orlando Salido (39-11-2, 27 KO’s) will be defending his title against #1 WBO Mikey Garcia (29-0, 25 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Also on the card will be unbeaten #3 WBC junior middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan (32-0, 20 KO’s) facing would could turn out to be his first loss of his career against #2 WBC Erislandy Lara (17-1-1, 11 KO’s) in a WBC 154 pound final eliminator bout.

Mikey Garcia, 24, is totally unproven and hasn’t looked all that great in terms of skills in his fights against mostly 3rd tier opposition. Garcia has good power, but really bad ring habits. He doesn’t really throw combinations, doesn’t throw many punches, and mostly loads up with his single shots. He’s got power but not much more than Salido, who throws a lot more punches and is much more versatile. Garcia fights like he’s so stiff, and he’s going to have big time problems against Salido when he doesn’t fall down from Garcia’s single power shots.
