Broner’s trainer: Ricky Burns was smart to avoid Broner fight because he’d lose

burns7575By Scott Gilfoid: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner’s trainer Mike Stafford thinks WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns made the right decision in turning down a fight against Broner because he feels that Burns would have lost and he knows he would have lost. Stafford thinks Burns understands his limitations and doesn’t want the Broner fight.

Stafford said to Sports Illustrated “I was disappointed we didn’t get the Burns fight because the media and the fans wanted it. I was happy for Ricky because Ricky was smart enough to know that he couldn’t beat Adrien, and his team protected his business. Other than that, we have to move on.”

Baby Floyd [Broner] is not great yet

broner655By Stevie Ocallaghan: Adrien “The Problem” Broner. After any fight regarding somebody in his weight class his name gets dragged up about he would smash whoever the other fighter might be.

Last weekend In Glasgow Ricky Burns fought and defended his title against the tough and skilled Puerto Rican Jose Gonzalez. It is said that Burns has mucked Broner 3 times now but all the time it was convenient for Broner And not necessarily for Burns.

Hearn says Broner can’t fight Burns because he’s busy

broner4534By Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns’ promoter Eddie Hearn is starting early with the excuses for why he won’t be trying to match Burns with WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner for September, saying that Broner is busy with a fighting WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi.

That has got to be the worst excuse for dodging an opponent I’ve ever seen because Broner is fighting Malignaggi next month on June 22nd, and Burns doesn’t have a fight until likely late September.

Three June knockouts to anticipate

golovkin322by Bob Smith: In scanning the boxing matches coming up next month, I will venture to make predictions of three KO victories. Will I be right? Only time will tell. For the (very recent) record, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez did better than I anticipated he would, though I had him losing a narrow decision; I also thought that Guerrero would have some more success in pressuring Floyd, though I did anticipate Floyd Mayweather Jr would win by unanimous decision.

The good news is that Gennady Golovkin should dismiss the highly talkative and disrespectful but very world class and skilled Matthew Macklin within roughly 8 rounds. I thought Macklin did very well against Sergio Martinez, but I don’t see him being able to cope effectively with the power and pressure tactics of Golovkin. I think that Martin Murray and his excellent defense would pose more problems for Golovkin though I think Golovkin would defeat Murray in a decision.

My problem with The latest Ring’s P4P List

broner68By Duke Pahulu: The Ring just posted their latest P4P list. The top three of Mayweather, Ward and Marquez are solid picks. I have a problem with the rest of the list. I thought the pound for pound list was created to put a spotlight to the divisions below heavyweight.

I don’t know why they keep putting heavies on the list. Wlad is a great fighter but being the Heavyweight Champion should be good enough. Abner Mares had a great win against Daniel Ponce de Leon but he shouldn’t be this high up the list. You can say that he has titles at three divisions but he was the man at only 118. Its not as though Mares just beat the featherweight champ in Mikey Garcia. Number six has Adrien Broner.

Malignaggi: I’m going to dominate Broner; I don’t respect him

malign1By Allan Fox: WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) sees his fight next month against Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) on June 22nd as being one of the easiest fights of his career when they meet up at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Malignaggi said to esnewsreporting.com “I do not respect Adrien Broner. After the fight, if he don’t take the ass whopping personally, I won’t either. Domination; I’m going to dominate the guy. People are going to be shocked.”

Broner said on his social media site: “I’m so ready for June 22. That boy Paulie better be ready!!!!”

Ricky Burns’ trainer: Ricky would school Broner at 135 or 140

burns4534By Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns had had at least two chances to fight WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner and both times he’s chosen not to take the fight with him. Burns’ trainer Billy Nelson says he’s hoping that Broner will move back down in weight to fight Burns in the near future, although he says Burns would move up to 140 to fight him if the opportunity presented itself to him.

Nelson said to Matchroom Sport: “Adrien Broner. I’d love him to come down. Even at 140. I believe Ricky would school him. He’s [Burns] got four or five fights left at lightweight before he moves up to light welterweight.”

Broner needs to beat Malignaggi in an impressive manner if he wants to become a PPV star

broner98822By Allan Fox: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) patterns himself after his hero/friend Floyd Mayweather Jr. Indeed, some fans see the 23-year-old Broner as a slightly smaller, less talented copy of Mayweather, and it’s hard to argue with that perception.

Broner wants to get the big money like Mayweather and become a pay per view attraction. However, it’s still unknown whether he’ll ever rise to that level due to his talent limitations and the limits of his opposition.

Mayweather Will End Up Knocking Broner Out

broner988221By Mohamed Horomtallah: No, Floyd Mayweather Jr is not fighting Adrien Broner. At least not that I know of but he might end up knocking him out just the same. Broner is a young and very talented fighter but hanging out with Mayweather can jeopardize his career.

Broner is marketing himself as the next big thing, the next pay-per-view superstar. He talks the talk but he still has to walk the walk. Being around Mayweather is dangerous for him because he gets to see Floyd live the life of a boxing superstar, with all the toys, the money, the jets, the respect etc. He feels that this could be his life in the short term and that makes him act like he’s already arrived.
