Paulie Malignaggi V Adrien Broner: Why it’s a Great Match-up

malignaggi4422By Sevak Sarkisian: As every boxing fan knows, two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi will be stepping into the ring to defend his WBA world title for the second time against undefeated and current WBC lightweight world titlist Adrien Broner on June 22nd at the Barclays Center. Many boxing analysts and fans believe this will be a fairly easy fight for the young 23 year old Broner. However, there are many reasons supporting the contrary.

Adrien Broner clearly hasn’t fought a fighter as accomplished as Malignaggi since facing Ponce De Leon in March of 2011 at 130lbs. Daniel Ponce De Leon put some hands on Broner in that fight and made Broner become hesitant and unsure of himself at times. Paulie is not only a much bigger man than Ponce De Leon, but he also possesses quicker hand speed.

Broner’s trainer wants Marquez or Bradley after Malignaggi

broner44By Chris Williams: Mike Stafford, the trainer for Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s), already has two guys that he’d like to see Broner face after he makes quick work of WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) next month on June 22nd at the Barclays Center in Brookly, New York.

Stafford wants Broner to face either Juan Manuel Marquez or Tim Bradley next year, whichever one will agree to the fight.

Stafford said to RingTV “We want either Timothy Bradley or Juan Manuel Marquez. Those are the two we really, really wanted. We know ideally we won’t be able to get Manny Pacquiao.”

Malignaggi: I’ll p*** on Broner if I drop him

malignaggi65By Allan Fox: WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) is talking about taking a leak on challenger Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) next month if he succeeds in knocking the 23-year-old down in their fight on June 22nd at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

It’s not likely the light hitting Malignaggi will drop Broner. Indeed, it’s more likely to be the other way around with the harder hitting Broner putting Malignaggi down if he connects with a big shot.

Malignaggi said to Worldstarhiphop.com “I’ll p*** on you. Don’t let me drop you because I will lift up my skirt and p*** on you. I promise you that….He’s not very created…he sounds like he’s retarded. He rehearses all his stuff, all his material.”

Adrien Broner vs. Juan Manuel Marquez: Intriguing fight!

broner343By Tom Drury: Boxing in recent months is receiving maximum exposure from the sporting world and so it should, great fights are being made (Carl Froch vs Mikkel Kessler 2), (Saul “Caenelo” Alvarez vs. Austin Trout), (Brandon Rios vs. Alvarado 2), (Lucas Matthysse vs. Lamont Peterson), (Denis Lebedev vs Guillermo Jones) (Floyd Mayweather vs. Guerrero) among others, Mayweather’s record breaking deal with Showtime/CBS and young prospects/fighters breaking through into the mainstream Alvarez, Trout, Golovkin, Ishe Smith among many more.

This article is based on what I believe would be an intriguing fight and great viewing “The Problem” Adrien Broner vs “El Dinamita” Juan Manuel Marquez, both fighters have bouts currently penciled in, Broner against Paulie Malignaggi at 147, Broner’s first fight at the weight and Marquez is facing off against Timothy Bradley.

Malignaggi: Broner has only knocked out smaller guys

broner4534 - CopyBy Allan Fox: WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) has no worries about the power of his next opponent Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) on June 22nd next month despite Broner having a knockout percentage of 84.62.

Malignaggi feels that Broner has collected those knockouts over smaller fighters without much talent, and he doesn’t think he’ll be able to duplicate those efforts at welterweight against him and other better welterweights in the division.

Malignaggi: Broner isn’t a pound for pound fighter

malignaggi44By Allan Fox: WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) has formed a belief that unbeaten lightweight Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) is an overrated fighter with power that’s not as good as his resume suggests, and Malignaggi is ready to test belief next month on June 22nd in their fight in Brooklyn, New York.

Malignaggi thinks he’ll have no problems taking Broner’s best shots without getting hurt and returning fire to soften him up to beat him by a decision.

Malignaggi isn’t predicting a knockout. He knows that Broner has a pretty good chin, and he’ll probably be able to take his best shots for 12 rounds. But he does see himself winning the fight by a fairly lopsided decision.

Broner-Malignaggi: Problems for “The Problem”

broner65454By Bob Smith: Nearly all boxing fans are familiar with one of the rising young stars in boxing today, Adrien “The Problem” Broner. He is ranked #5 on the Golden Boy pound for pound list, AKA the Ring Magazine Pound for Pound List and arguably lives up to the hype of all but Golden Boy Promotions.

Since his unanimous decision victory in early 2011 against Daniel Ponce de Leon – which I actually scored as a loss for him or at best a draw – he has scored six straight KO victories against world class competition such as Vicente Escobedo, Antonio DeMarco and Gavin Rees.

Malignaggi: I’m going to outclass Broner and beat him up

broner6545By Allan Fox: WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) isn’t impressed with Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) at all, and feels he’s going to school the 23-year-old and expose him in front of the boxing world next month on June 22nd in their fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Malignaggi said to I Film London “I’ll be outclassing him and beating him up. I really believe his power is overrated. I can stand in front of him if I need to and mix it up…I can’t see myself losing…I’m going to beat his a** and beat s*** out of him, and it’s not going to be a pretty sight.”

Broner will need to beat Canelo if he wants to become a huge PPV star

broner3436By Dan Ambrose: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) sees himself becoming the first boxer to ever make one billion dollars in the sport. However, at this point it’s questionable whether he’ll ever be a pay per view attraction, period.

While he does bring in good ratings on Showtime and previously did on HBO when he fought on that network, he lacks big name opposition needed for him to be catapulted to a huge PPV star like his hero Floyd Mayweather Jr. Golden Boy wants Broner to be a huge PPV star, but he’s not going to get there facing the likes Lamont Peterson, Danny Garcia, Lucas Matthysse, Amir Khan, Ricky Burns, Devon Alexander, Kell Brook, Paulie Malignaggi, Victor Ortiz or Keith Thurman.
