Will Mayweather be forced out of his comfort zone against Pacquiao?

floyd933By Yannis Mihanos: Comfort Zone is the place that we all thrive. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26 KOs) has been seen in training trying various kinds of methods (chopping wood, swimming, putting in long hours in the gym, and strength training) for the big fight on May 2nd at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada against Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs).

For the first time in years Mayweather is training unusually hard and different. That to me shows how much he values this fight and this opponent. In the past Mayweather has always tried to degrade Pacquiao by presenting him as a lesser fighter, making fun of him, comparing him with other fighters and saying that he does not belong at all to his level.

But now all this is another story. His new training regimen shows that not only he respects Pacquiao but he fears him too. Why else would he try to change and adapt so much his training? If you are confident enough about your ability, your skills, you don’t change them all of a sudden after 18 years.

Of course, someone would say that great fighters have that uncanny ability to adapt with different opponents: to shapeshift according to plan.

Great fighters are the exception of the rule. If that’s the case then he is doing very well but if not then he will only sabotage himself and end up losing bad.

It is also evident the frustration of Floyd training like this as he recently mentioned on an interview that he is not enjoying the sport anymore and thinking to quit after September. It can be only a marketing trick to instigate new offers. Who knows what is in his mind? And what about breaking Rocky Marciano’s record 49-0?

Unless he sees the end coming close on May 2nd. If Floyd is trying near at the end of his career to become strong, that to me looks desperate.

A desperate attempt to hold his unbeaten record by knocking out Pacquiao, but I think it is easier said than done.

Pacquiao can take a punch unless it is something like in the 4rth fight against Marquez. Mayweather’s punch power does not and cannot scare Pacquiao.

Mayweather’s IQ and defensive skills are his best weapons and those he must only use if he wants to beat Pacquiao.

The skills of Mayweather can seriously by affected by this desperate attempt in becoming physically strong… I know that Mayweather rules also as a coach and that can be a good thing and a bad thing.

I might be wrong saying this but I think that Mayweather is shooting himself in the foot…
